Nelson Mandela dead at 95

With the confirmation that Nelson Mandela has died we can expect a vast outpouring of grief from all of the usual suspects from the left. Heck even this conservative has respect for Nelson Mandela, who was and ever will be the man given the most credit fro the fall of the apartied regime in South Africa.

As good as I think the man to have been I can’t help wondering  how much hyperbole will be invoked about him in the near future.

With great respect Comrades

Well, I don’t think his hyperbole will surpass Chuck Norris, but his accomplishments deserve just a bit of praise. I wish many of your fellow conservatives showed respect in this manner. It’s refreshing to see someone that can praise an ideological opposite without hesitation.

Plenty, but there’s not enough hyperbole in the English language to do him justice. Even Tony Abbott has joined in the chorus in singing his praises, Iain, so maybe Mandela was just one of those figures who transcended politics – I think he was.

  8. Richard Ryan says:

If you want to see free speech in action, go to Bolt’s blog “Nelson Mandela Dies” see the vile comments, and blog of hate in action. This is Bolt’s Law in action, now what can I say about Andrew in three words, he is Dutch.

  9. Iain Hall says:

To be honest Richard I don’t read Bolt much at all these days and if I do I don’t ever bother with the comments.

  10. Richard Ryan says:

” To be honest Iain”—you did quote him a lot, maybe now in this later stage of your life, like Mandela you are starting to mellow, or maybe Ray Dixon told you to use your own views, instead of Bolt’s. To be honest, Bolt’s views, is everything I hate in a fellow human being. Better still I may like you, not bother to read his blog anymore.

  11. Iain Hall says:

    Richard
in the past I found my sport in defending Bolt from the criticisms of a certain far left barrister, this was an activity that I found hugely amusing and a great time waster. Now days I write what I please from my own perspective and at my own pace.
One thing that you can be sure of though is that Ray does not tell me what to write (sometimes I am sure that I can hear the “Groans” when I hit the publish button)

  12. Ray Dixon says:

Pretty soon, Iain, if Abbott keeps showing as much disinterest in the job that he’s shown so far, you (and Bolt) might even be writing posts that are critical of your precious TA – the man who saw becoming PM as an end game. Honestly, he’s asleep at the wheel and doesn’t seem to care where the country goes.

  13. Iain Hall says:

    Ray
I think that Abbott is very much wide awake and traveling well despite the labor legacy issues that he has had to contend with of late.

  14. Ray Dixon says:

Iain, he’s a fish out of water. He’s gone to ground. He’s a stunned mullet. Tony Abbott is doing nothing and doesn’t even seem to care. Honestly, Abbott is looking like the most inept and disinterested PM in history. I kid you not, I believe he was so focused on just becoming PM and nothing else that to him, there’s nothing left to do or aim for. Give it time, Iain, and I think even his own party will turn on him (although who they’d then turn to is a dilemma for them). This Coalition govt is a joke, Iain. They are far worse than the one they replaced and are damaging this country already.

  15. Iain Hall says:

    Ray
Sadly you mistake a lack of self aggrandisement with a lack of actually doing the job. Rudd/Gillard/Rudd were all about the self promotion and making a big show of everything that they were Gunna-do and then they had to endlessly defend the things that they did badly (pink Batts fuel watch Grocery watch ect ect ect)

  16. Ray Dixon says:

Iain, the little we’ve seen of Abbott has not exactly made us feel he knows what he’s doing. You’re giving him a big honeymoon, mate, but wait and see. Tony Abbott is like the Captain of the Titanic. No idea.

  17. Iain Hall says:

    Ray
so far all of the issues have been things that Labor have left him to clean up,and i can see him being entirely methodical and attending to each issue in turn.

Tony Abbott is like the Captain of the Titanic.

Well you are right about that in one way because like the late mariner Abbott puts duty before ego something that could not have been said about either Rudd or Gillard.

  18. Ray Dixon says:

Oh really, Iain? *Sigh* …. you are just too besotted with your man, I think.

I can see the day though, when even you will admit Tony Abbott is a total dud.

  19. Iain Hall says:

Ray while you keep wishing for him to fail with such enthusiasm I feel that I have no choice but to defend the man. Remember though that I don’t do hero worship (as you may gather from the tone of this post.
