Further revelations of Public Trustee of Queensland’s gouging of estates

The Public Trustee of Queensland is a public body charged with managing the finances of some of the most vulnerable members of the community, including those lacking capacity and prisoners.

The ABC has now again reported on the Public Trustee, this time in relation to its mismanagement and fee gouging of estates.

Cora Whitfort appointed the Public Trustee as executor of her estate when she made her will back in 2011.  She passed away six years later in 2017.

It took two years  and cost the estate more than $20,000 for the Public Trustee to obtain probate.

Come back Peter and other current events

3sunfish

On the Radio  this morning is the cheerful news that Peter Greste has been released and deported from Egypt I am sure that his family will be very pleased indeed, I am as well even though I don’t share the view that seem prevalent among the usual suspect that some one who is a journalist is automatically some kind of secular saint. Anyway that is an all’s well that ends well situation.

Now to events closer to home and something that has left me feeling profoundly depressed, Yep the state election its a terrible result for Queensland that will see the incompetent Labor party back into government. That said we live in a democracy and that means I have to accept the result with good grace, fucking hell though its hard with that idiot of a woman in charge. The irony is that for all of the rhetoric about the reforms made by the LNP over the last three years, things like the thinning of the bloated public service and other fiscal savings will not be reversed so its, once again going to be a case of the LNP wearing the pain of necessary reforms and the ALP will be able to get the benefits gratis.

I feel nothing but dread for governance of our great state of Queensland over the next three years… On the upside though It will be far easier to attack the government’s inevitable incompetence than it has been to defend the missteps of the previous administration.

Not much to cheer about from my perspective Comrades

Racism off the rails in Queensland

Now I abhor racism in any form but I also find the spin on this incident  sadly disappointing on several fronts,

729-racist-fbook

Around 8pm Saturday, the offender(Identified as Kader Boumzar) posted a status update to his Facebook page.

“I was just drunk couldn’t remember s–t so stop over reacting, but I am proud to be white!” it read.

Around 11pm a second status update appeared on the page, expressing remorse.

“I’m really sorry to everyone that was affected by the video I really can not remember anything out of all honesty the post made before was someone else I know this is no excuse,” it read.

“But can you all see from my point of view that I was a f—-ing idiot and I’m really sorry.”

The offender is believed to be 17 years old.

Queensland Police said on Saturday night they were aware of the video, and would investigate further with Queensland Rail officials on Sunday.

Firstly the loutish behavior  of Kader Boumzar that is of course utterly unacceptable.
Secondly the the media have been presenting this incident as if the miscreant is a White Anglo Bogan, yet when his name was revealed as Kader Boumzar its very clear that he can not be an Anglo at all. I’m no expert of the etymology of all names but it sounds to me that the name is more likely to be from Afghanistan Iran of somewhere in the middle east.
Thirdly I get the very strong impression that this might very well be juvenile  a set up in pursuit of internet fame/infamy or some wider anti mainstream Australia agenda. I cite as evidence the very audible laughing of the person who was recording the incident on their phone. Secondly despite later claiming to be too drunk to remember the incident Kader Boumzar’s diatribe does not sound spontaneous, it is stilted and wooden like some low rent amateur theatrics.
Thirdly the vid shows that despite being employed as “security” Neither the abused man no the other security person who appears later in the were prepared to man handle Kader Boumzar   and physically throw him off the train. As an extremely occasional user of Queensland trains (once in the last five years) I find it rather disturbing that security guards are actually impotent to act against thuggery on our trains.

Threat levels and Islam

Those who have been following this blog for sometime must have noticed my interest in the battle that we are all involved in between modern secular society and the medieval version of Islam that sadly too many young Muslims are so keen to kill and die for. So it should surprise none of you that the government has just announced that the threat level has been increased. Who could complain? in the last few days we have had arrests made of two men who have been charged with terrorism offenses not that far from Chez Hall in Logan (speaking from a global perspective), Obama has announced that there will be no rock that the Jihadists can hide under in Iraq or Syria and no day goes by with out some new Jihadi  outrage hitting the airwaves.  Personally I don’t feel any more concerned before the change to the threat level but then I have been more interested in this issue than many people for some time. I do however hope that the discussion helps those who have been either in denial about the nature of Islam or the sincerity of those who would kill for it realize the error of their ways before its too late.

Saving the wet stuff for when you need it

RT22500_L

I am very much in waiting mode at present mainly for the new water-tank that we have ordered for Chez Hall. You see if you were to be building a new house in our shire you would be obliged to have  at least 10,000 gallons of storage but because this place was built before such requirements came into force we have had to get by with much less than that, in fact our main house has just a 3000 gallon tank. and it has proved to be not enough on few  occasions which has meant that we have had to buy water and at $160 a load it is not cheap (especially when that load of water is too much to put in our tank). To make sure that we don’t have to buy  water so frequently (if at all) again We are buying a new plastic tank that will  hold 5000 gallons its not cheap though its going to cost us nearly $2700 but that will be a very worthwhile investment.

The site for it is to be the same spot that I had a metal tank previously. That metal tank was one I got for free some years ago and it just needed a few patches and a dab or two of silicone however those repairs did not make it last. It took a poor broken me a long time and quite a few cutting discs on the angle grinder to break it up in to manageable pieces for removal. Anyway the new  tank arrives Monday or Tuesday next week and you know what we are experiencing the first rain that we have had for ages right now just before it arrives, so does anyone want to give me odds that having installed the new tank the Gods will ensure that we have a sustained period of dry weather?

Its what I am expecting to be honest.

SLAB

There is a lovely Aussie tradition of mates helping each other out on big projects and this film is an example of that tradition made manifest. My brother Peter has built himself a super new shed to keep his vintage cars in and today he organized the pouring of a concrete floor for about half of the shed ( the rest will be done in a few weeks time) after setting up the boxing laying the moisture barrier and steel reinforcing mesh he also arranged for a whole tribe of his mates to come out and help lay the slab. Fortunately his mate Charlie has done this sort of thing before so the end result was the beautiful floor that you see in my final shot. In keeping with another fine Aussie tradition after the work was done it was my job to cook everyone burgers and snags on the barbie and most importantly a few ales were shared to celebrate the end of a job well done.

Home is where the heart is and calling Australia home

While Ray and Jeff want to play down any instance of Islamic maleficence we just keep hearing reports about the most extreme followers of that faith who have been welcomed into this country taking up the gun and the bomb in the name of Allah, Like the Brisbane woman arrested and charged yesterday:

Syria jihad1

Click for source

Lets be real here   the base of the problem with the local would be Jihadis is multifaceted, firstly under the credo of  multiculturalism immigrants are encouraged to maintain the strongest ties with their originating culture and homeland, secondly they are discouraged from making any critique of that culture, finally modern communication means that its hard to truly separate and distance oneself from the dysfunction and conflicts in your homeland. What this boils down to is that most recent immigrants may be here, in Australia in body but in spirit they well and truly remain in their country of origin. This is especially so when you come from a language and culture tradition that is so different from that which is current in Australia.

Home is where the heart is the aphorism tells us, and if you are committed to fighting and possibly dying for a country other than Australia do you really have the right to “call Australia home”? The report tells us that upwards of 100 Australian citizens are fighting in the Syrian civil war and I can'[t help thinking that those who are doing so should be stripped of their Australian citizenship and prohibited from ever re-entering this country.
