Julia Gillard’s golden prospects in semantic gymnastics

yep I’m on a first name basis with our PM

In another place I have been discussing the level of respect afforded to our current PM and I have been making the argument that ours is a rather informal society and that our leaders themselves promote that informality. No one in the United States would dare address a sitting or former President by their first name unless they were specifically invited to do so because they have a long tradition of revering the office of president itself. Here in this country it is entirely alien to genuflect to our leaders in any way at all. Frankly I think that it makes our leaders much more grounded that the ordinary people wont stand for the sort of obsequious deference that is common elsewhere.

But I will draw readers attention to the deliberate lie at the end of Julia’s missive> where she tells me that the 9% rise in  electricity prices is “fully compensated” maybe for those individuals who are under a certain threshold there is “compensation” but there are many Australians who don’t qualify for this largess who will be paying that extra 9% without a single cent of “compensation” So I ask you dear readers how can our PM be believed when she claims that the rise Is “fully compensated”?

Oh yeah that’s right we can believe her because she did give us that sincere promise before the last election “there will be no Carbon Tax under a government that I lead”  Yeah well its obvious that she is just continuing in the same vein in all of her other political pronouncements and that we can expect the most convoluted semantic gymnastics from Julia and her barrackers . Now if only  semantic gymnastics were an Olympic event  then this country would have wall to wall Gold thanks entirely to Julia Gillard.

Graphology

I’ve always been impressed with the skill of ‘climate scientists’. Particularly when it comes to graphs. The first that comes to mind is of course that famous ‘hockey stick’ curve. And what a curve (ball) it was. Despite being shown to ‘hide the decline’ and be completely fabricated, it nonetheless captured the hearts and minds of the warmist brigade.

A good graph will do that to you.

So it’s no surprise that I find myself in the same enthrall of some recently revealed data.

Apparently Australia’s plethora of Silver, and not Gold, Medals won in the London Olympics, isn’t due to a lack of training, or a surfeit of tweeting but something far more noxious.

It’s the Carbon Tax, Labor’s tax on carbon dioxide, that’s worrying our Olympians. They’re afraid to breathe in or out, lest they rack up a carbon dioxide debt upon returning home.

This graph proves that.

Yep, that’s right folks, our sportsmen and women are afraid to breathe, just as our businesses are afraid to  make a profit, in case they rack up a ‘carbon debt’.

This is the Labor way.

However, there is an upside to this supposed global warming apocalypse. As the next graph shows, when the global temperature supposedly rises, piracy on the high seas decreases.

So rest easy folks, because, as the planet heats, you’ll be bothered less and less by pirates.

Death Zone inescapable for Labor under Gillard as the party shows evidence of terminal hypoxia

Can Labor get out of the Death zone alive?

The thing about Ponzi schemes is that they all eventually collapse as the market runs out of idiots who believe the over  inflated claims about their efficacy and their ability to give their promised returns. Its the same with government sponsored “carbon trading” regimes which function on trying to create a “market based mechanism” to control the emissions from the burning of fossil fuel. Even if I were a believer in the AGW theory I would be baulking at schemes such as these because they are just too vague and abstract and they carry the clear potential to do nothing about emissions and worse still to enrich the undeserving Spivs and Shonks who  just love them. After all what these schemes  are is another derivatives market that is entirely disconnected from any real or  objective commodity. Its the perfect vehicle  for making a quick and very large profit.

Here in Oz we have the much hated Carbon dioxide  tax that is due to morph into an expensive trading scheme in 2014 its creators have predicated their scheme upon a cost per tonne that has essentially been plucked from the air however the market value of this ah hem, “commodity” is significantly below the AUD$23 per tonne that the Gillard scheme has as its starting point:

click for source

The European experience should tell us something important here and that is the expensive futility of such indirect mechanisms to “control” the emission of CO2 by our industry. The only bright spot in this rather hazy and gloomy picture is the fact that the Coalition offers a definitive undertaking to dismantle the whole thing when they gain the lodge. It won’t be easy and we can already hear the screams and protestations of the Green unwashed. But it will be done, all that is needed to make the death of Gillard’s Climatechoices even more palatable would be if the oppositions so called alternative emissions reduction scheme was to likewise be consigned to the dustbin of history. Its clearly better than the Ponzi scheme envisioned by Labor and the Greens but that is only because the things they propose may have some benefit to the environment in other ways like improving soil quality and tree cover. Saving the money by not jumping into more futile attempts to mitigate emissions would also make it easier to retain some of the over generous “compensation” like the laudable rise in the tax free threshold or increases in pensions.

Gillard has counted on the bribes she has offered to the voters to make her bitter scheme palatable but the polls are clearly showing that the voters are unimpressed . Team  Labor are definitely in the death zone here and who is really surprised? They are burdened with a leader who is too stubborn to admit that her gamble that the Carbon Tax would be accepted by the public has not and will not give her a pay off and now her stake on the table is too small for her to possibly win the next round of the game, The odds have become so bad that even going to another leader won’t save Team Labor. In any event who among their number would want to go down in history for leading them to their worst defeat in the history of the party?

The last dance looms for Labor

Here we see a minion of the left trying to save the Gillard government by the use of a special dance to placate Gaia, sadly the Goddess is far from amused by such a poor effort so she has decided instead to endorse the coalition. Speaking through a true Prophet the Goddess is reported to have said that she is insulted by the suggestion that creating a Ponzi scheme is any way to serve the interests of the planet.

I feel sorry for those people of the left who really wanted Gillard to succeed, even if the only reason that they have now is that Julia is not Tony. Even if they are wilfully blind to the failures of this government and they insist on not seeing the bus loaded with electoral explosives across the tracks towards which the Labor train is speeding towards at full throttle. When it happens it will be a very big bang indeed and the carnage will be far from pretty to add insult to injury Gillard herself may end up retaining her seat and you can bet that if she does that she won’t stay in the parliament in the wake of such a humiliating defeat   so the party will be humiliated again at the subsequent by-election.

Well there is some good news for your common or garden variety Labor tragic and it is that the party has a plan:

click for source

Now if only they had had a plan for good government rather than the spectacular implosion that back-flipping on that infamous “there will be no carbon tax under a government I lead” promise maybe then the true believers would have reason for hope rather than despair at this point in time but as it stands now I fear that there is no hope for Labor in government and even less reasons to believe that they will learn the lessons of the failure with the urgency that their thrashing should inspire.

Labor The Next Generation

Every commentator on Australian politics just loves a party in turmoil, especially when the underlying leadership tensions are in play. We have that at present with the ALP they are failing on so many issues at present, we have daily boat arrivals,Their Carbon tax has not become more loved since its introduction, even their blatant attempts at distraction like the so called Gay marriage debate has blown its load early as even its staunchest advocates realise that it is never going to get the numbers in the house to become law, At  a state level Labor has all but collapsed into obscurity. Lets face it the Labor party is only marginally more popular than a bacon sandwich in a mosque (well it is Ramadan  😉 ). Add to that misery the disproportionate power of the so called independents Windsor and Oakeshott      who are providing a great example of just how the tail wags this Labor dog.

This is the perfect example of just how bad minority government is for the country when two political cowboys can hold a party to ransom and demand that the party have a leader of their liking or its straight to the polls. This threat is clearly meant to steel the backbones of wavering Gillard supporters but I can’t help thinking that there might just be a few backbenchers who know that they are gone no matter what and they just jump to Rudd because of the threat, In the words of one of the government’s ministers:

“Its better to die on your feet than to live in your knees”

Thus our soap opera is working up to a spectacular season finale, we have the main characters plotting and scheming and the political  romance between Gillard and the intendants is clearly in desperate trouble. However for the true romantics out there let me suggest that it was always co-dependency rather than love between Labor and those so called independents, Labor under Gillard was just so desperate to form government that they gave enormous largess to them and let these two men dictate the direction of the government (carbon tax anyone?) and of course Gillard got to shack up in the Lodge with Tim.

OK I’m not going to give any spoilers to the season Finale but I will say that cancellation of this show is a very distinct possibility given its consistently poor ratings over the last season, it has run some very tired story arcs that have just not resonated with the viewing public. There  is still an ever decreasing fan base for this particular show but I don’t think that we will see the same dedicated public response as the producers of Star Trek found after the cancellation of the original serries.  But who knows we may yet see ” Labor the Next Generation”  go into production. Sadly for the faithful fans it may take a generation for that to happen as there is no one with the talent of Patrick Stewart to “make it so” within the Labor party.

Tony Abbott says “Workers will find that I am their best friend”

Tony Abbott doing his press conference at Andrews Meats, Lidcombe, Sydney, has said “Workers will find that I am their best friend”.

Well at the very least he will encourage business which will make jobs more secure.

What that means is if he ever becomes Prime Minister, he will cut penalty rates, working conditions, low wage, unsafe work places, flexibility (to be fired), no union protections, no protection from your wages being stolen… and prison time for attending union meetings (sound far fetched? just ask Ark Tribe, who went to prison under laws to make construction industry more flexible, but not safe) sounds just like WorkChoices.

These claims are just the wild imaginings of a paranoid extreme leftist who is so mired in the tenets of Marxist ideology that they are unable to realise that the world has moved on form the workers vs the bosses dichotomy.

Why is this necessary? To save us from a couple of cents carbon “tax”? Working peoples wages will be slashed by a third – as they are in Greece – because this is the economic model that Tony Abbott thinks is good for business.

This claim is so full of hyperbole that it is hard to distinguish 99’s rant from something dreamt up to satirise the far left.

And if you’re a working person who truly believes that Abbott will deliver higher wages… take one look at who he is making promises to – Gina Rinehart, Clive Palmer – these people will never have the best interests of the working class and small business owners at heart.

The working people were promised by Julia Gillard that “there will be no Carbon tax under a government I lead” yet we now have a rather useless carbon tax burdening the entire economy so its a bit rich for the author to insist that the voters would trust the current government’s word more than a commitment made by Abbott who has had the good sense to notice what electoral poison it is to say one thing to be elected only to do the opposite once you are in the lodge.
Finally even a devote of the politics of the left should make an effort to think of politics through a lens bigger than their own ideology if they expect to be taken seriously.

Craig Emerson is an embarassment to us all #carbonchoices

Its far from being a good day when it comes to  the fortunes of Labor and the left  this example From Craig Emerson shows me that Labor have totally lost both their dignity and any hope of winning on this issue. If the polling is to believed Emerson is gone at the next election, well I for on think that taking up singing as an alternative to politics won’t be an option even though he will be forced to give up his day job.

  The voice he ain’t!

This is how to do it on key Craig

Does anyone really think that Labor can sell the, Ah Hem, “virtues” of Climatechoices to a cynical public?

Thanks to those fine folks at Fairfax we have a Poll taken right at the beginning of Gillard’s Climatechoices and surprise surprise It shows that the public are far from being amused by this tax and spend money churn:

click for source

My question to you dear readers is there anyone out there who think that Climatechoices is going to be anything other than a total disaster for team Labor?

With their record of not being able to “sell” their message on any policy does anyone think that they will be able to convince the public that they have something of virtue in their Climatechoices regime?

Come on who will offer me a bottle of red on it?
