Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan deserve to be shot and then forgotten

“Australian government appeals are neither heroic nor heartfelt; Canberra is merely trying to save their own ‘subject bodies’ from the firing squad, while slowly disposing of ‘abject bodies’ it does not want through inhumane detention centres or returning them to foreign regimes that will probably finish the job for them,” Mr Marthinus said in an opinion piece in The Jakarta Post.
The impact of the executions on bilateral relations is coming under intense scrutiny in the English-speaking press in Jakarta, with conjecture that the decision to drop plans to waive visa requirements for Australian visitors to Indonesia could also be related.
However, this has been denied by the government and is also considered unlikely by migration agents.
And Bali’s Governor Made Mangku Pastika has said he would not like to see the execution take place on Bali because it could hurt the island’s public image.
I wonder If I am alone in feeling somewhat embarrassed by the excessive gnashing of teeth over the pending execution off these two scumbags? There is no doubt that they did the crime, being caught red handed with the heroin strapped to their bodies takes care of that, these two were the ringleaders of the scheme so they deserve a harsher punishment than the other seven idiots. that make up the “Bali nine”gang. That said I am sure that the usual suspects will whine and posture about how capital punishment is wrong in principle. Frankly its not something that I believe. there are crimes that clearly deserve a capital sanction multiple murder, or murder in the name of a vile ideology are obvious to me, as is the repeated sexual abuse 0f children, when it comes to drug dealers its a little less clear. Personally I tend to think that some drugs are worse than others and that those who deal in opiates, cocaine or crystal Meth are worse than those who sell a bit of Ganga.
So in the not too distant future Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan will have their stroll in the jungle , be tied to a post and shot dead this little black duck won’t shed a single tear nor will most of my fellow Ausies either. The usual suspects on the other hand will have an almost orgasmic out pouring of leftist angst all because these men happen to Australian citizens…
The sooner they are shot the sooner they can be utterly forgotten because they certainly do not deserve to be remembered.

Some thoughts about mooted changes to Media ownership law in Australia
People are creatures of habit and it is only that so many people are habituated to buying the news papers that any are still being sold at all. Just take any kind of commute on public transport and consider how many people are reading a paper and how many are staring at a screen instead. Some certainly may be playing games or even watching video but I expect that they will be out numbering those who are still reading dead tree editions of the MSM.
Then there is the things in the paper that people buy them for, most papers are not exclusively about politics and current affairs anyway, so some readers will be buying the paper for its coverage of sport, lifestyle or even just for the crossword puzzles. My point is that the political classes (in particular those from the left ) just look at the raw sales figured and they think that every reader of the Herald Sun is in the thrall of Rupert Murdoch and that the owners dictate to their readers directing their opinions. The reality is that all media entities write to their audience. If they don’t their audience wither away quite quickly. With the coming of the internet this is even more how things work Online entities are even more in an endless quest for readers so you have to play to what your readers want rather than thinking that you can manipulate their thinking. I have been writing a blog for nearly a decade now and I have noticed just how quickly particular readers flit in and out its the same now with the way that people read things online from the likes of Murdoch, Fairfax or even the Guardian People don’t just get their news from one source any more no matter what the subject is they will read what several sources say about it and then make up their mind. This behaviour is the same when it comes to broadcast TV people flit form one channel to another seeking different perspectives. My argument is simple, if the media consumers have changed their habits then perhaps there is something in the notion that media diversity laws from the last century should perhaps reflect those changes as well.

Brand new boats for their return journey.
As one who has steadfastly refused to believe the rhetoric from the usual suspects that it would be impossible to successfully turn back boats I take more than a little pleasure in the reports that boats are being very successfully turned back and I envision those lily-livered lefties choking on their cornflakes with every new story of a successful turn back.
Those disposable orange life boats are looking like a very good investment indeed …
Indonesian media reported that a large orange lifeboat washed up on Pangandaran Beach on Wednesday night.
Ciamis police inspector Firmaansyah was quoted as saying that the 34 asylum-seekers appeared to be from Iran, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan.
“The boat was like an orange-coloured capsule made of fibreglass,” Mr Firmaansyah told Kompas.com.
The boat was closed, with ventilation windows on the top. Inside police found the remains of food and drink.
Immigration Minister Scott Morrison has confirmed the purchase of several large lifeboats, which are known to be used in turn-back operations.
Wednesday’s arrival was the second known instance of the boats having been deployed.
Authorities have begun using the boats in order to stop asylum-seekers from preventing their return to Indonesia by scuttling their own boat.
Yesterday’s news means at least six boatloads of asylum-seekers have now been turned back to Indonesia, either in their own vessels or on the Australian-supplied lifeboats.
The high number of turn-backs coupled with the absence of new boat arrivals suggest turn-backs have become routine procedure, rather than aberrations.
I can’t help but recall a certain gentleman, now in a provincial legal practice*, who was so passionately arguing that we should return people smugglers’ boats so they could be of a better quality and less likely to sink with a resultant loss of life. I can’t help but enjoy a few moments of schardenfraude at the latest as the Australian government goes one better and gives each new cohort of “asylum seekers” brand new boats for their return journey. Oh how the breakfast conversation in that house in NSW must be a total joy as that legal professional tries to find new reasons why the success of turning back the boats is in fact a failure…
Pardon my cavort with nostalgia and imagination but I think that its a very good thing for our nation that those on the left were so wrong about turning back the boats, clearly it can be done and Indonesia has not and will not go to war over us over the return of “asylum seekers” as anyone without the disability of a jellied spinal column has been saying for years.

TPVs and saying goodbye to the UN refugee convention
As I suggested the other day the government has easily found an adequate workaround to overcome the stunt pulled by the Greens and the ALP in moving to disallow TPVs in the senate:
The cap ordered yesterday has been set at the current number already issued this year – 1650 – meaning not a single new permanent residency visa will be granted until at least July when the cap will be reset.
This is also when the new Senate will be sworn in, stripping Labor and the Greens of their power to block legislation.
Mr Morrison has also used provisions under section 46 of the Migration Act – which apply to ministerial discretion to allow applications to be made by asylum seekers offshore – and has placed a self-imposed ban on allowing applications to be made for permanent protection visas.
All other humanitarian visa programs remain in place, such as those which apply for asylum seekers in UN-administered refugee camps overseas.
Mr Morrison said the effect of the Greens-led roadblock in the Senate – supported by Labor – would be asylum seekers in Australia would be denied any access to work rights or welfare payments other than what is allowed under the bridging visa program.
He said the move was necessary to ensure people smugglers did not use the Labor-Greens Senate alliance to “re-open the door to asylum seekers” as propaganda to encourage more people to get on boats.
He said the freeze on permanent protection visas would remain until the Senate changed its mind.
So all that the stunt will do is provide a small hiatus in the issuing of TPVs and in the mean time those who would qualify for them will suffer more. Good one Mr Shorten. of course this issue clearly begs the question “just how out of date is the UN convention?” and for those of us who have been suggesting for some time that the answer is a resounding “completely!”. Of course the minions of the left claim that the UN convention is wonderful and overflowing with fine principles about “protecting” vulnerable people and I will admit that the original intention was precisely that. However the passage of sixty odd years finds that the world is a vastly different place, in many ways its two worlds, there is the well governed old world countries that have both stability and relative prosperity and then there is the ill governed rabble that makes up the majority of the planet’s nation states. Sadly many of that rabble will never get their act together enough to provide the opportunities for their citizens that we can take for granted. Minions of the far left take the point of view that materially successful nations are required to feel guilty about those who live in dysfunctional societies and to subsequently supply them with either money or allow them to immigrate so that they can share the spoils of our good governance and our ordered society, the problem with this seemingly humane approach is just where to draw the line about just how generous we should be, Its clear to me that for the far left there should be no line at all which will lead to our nation being overwhelmed.
The history of immigration has largely been a success because the numbers have generally been held at the level that can easily be absorbed into our society the problem with the open borders left is that they are just too myopic to see the bigger picture and the possible consequences of the things that they advocate. That is fine when you are dealing with just one person but when that individual is but one of many thousands then we have a big problem.
Going out on a limb here I would suggest that if the Abbott government were to consider pulling out of the UN convention it would be done by providing a legislative instrument setting out the way that asylum-seekers would be treated. An instrument that enshrines in law that we offer temporary protection and that permanent residency would forever be out of the question. Likewise I would expect that those applicants who arrive without any form of documentation would generally be considered suspect. Now if this sort legal basis was enshrined in our law I tend to think that we would not be the only nation to get off the UN convention bandwagon. because we are certainly not the most put upon nation that has to deal with the mass migration from the third world.
In mediaeval Japan anyone who set foot on the shores of the land was subject to immediate beheading. We certainly do not want to get to that extreme but the more that western nations have a problem with an uncontrollable influx of the world’s poor the more brutal the methods to control the flow will surely become. This country , being an island, is better placed than either Europe or the US to have very effective border controls and it is the duty of our federal government to make-sure that those who come here are people that we choose, people who add to the whole rather than create a social problem but most importantly who can become Australians first and foremost rather than just living here.

Royal Australian Navy Taxi service now off-line
Well if there is an upside to the Indonesian hissy-fit of Labor authorising phone tapping its this instruction to the Australian navy to stay out of Indonesia’s search and rescue zone. Frankly even when we have kissed and made up with SBY I think that the current restriction on our navy’s operations should continue for several very sound reasons.

Firstly it will be a mighty powerful disincentive to people who have may be seduced by the people smugglers to buy one of their poisoned tickets because as it stands the so called asylum seekers have been relying on our Navy being a virtual taxi service.
Secondly for a nation of islands it seems ridiculous that Indonesia can not provide adequate rescue capabilities in its own waters and its just not our job to provide an eternal back up service to take up their slack.
Thirdly we keep being told that the constant rescue operations are wearing out both our personnel and our hardware at a prodigious rate keeping our assets out of Indonesian waters will allow proper maintenance to be done and personnel to recharge their batteries.
Fourthly it will help the budget bottom line.
Now of course I expect the usual suspects to scream blue murder if a boat full of asylum seekers founders but in that unhappy event it will be the fault of Indonesia if any lives are lost but some how I don’t think it will come to that as long as the water-borne mendicants get the message that our taxi service is no longer an option.

More Labor sins haunting the Abbott Government
The current crisis, courtesy of The Guardian newspaper and its source Edward Snowden, has brought out of the woodwork all sorts of advice to the new federal government. One of the more bizarre ideas came from former foreign minister Bob Carr. He suggested Julie Bishop should fly to Jakarta and apologise to the Indonesians. I hope she doesn’t. That’s an absurd suggestion. It would undermine once and for all the age-old policy of neither confirm nor deny. And if The Guardian publishes another allegation, does she apologise again? Or if the allegation is serious, but false, how does she start explaining why she won’t apologise? You see the point. The Carr formula is a formula that could unravel our intelligence capabilities. As Opposition Leader, Bill Shorten should dissociate himself from this nonsense. Instead, he seemed yesterday to endorse it.
What is more, neither Bishop nor Tony Abbott was in government at the time of the alleged phone interception. The prime minister was then Kevin Rudd and the foreign and defence ministers were Stephen Smith and John Faulkner, respectively. So if there was any apologising to do, they should do it. For the reasons I’ve mentioned they shouldn’t apologise. They should do nothing.
The Snowden affair is arguably the most serious breach of security in history. It’s certainly a sad indictment of America’s capacity to hang on to its own secrets as well as those of its allies. All this comes so soon after the huge WikiLeaks embarrassment. But it says something about the ideological disposition of the left-wing Guardian that it has shamelessly dribbled out this material to maximise the pain and embarrassment to the Western alliance. That may suit The Guardian but the cost to the national interests of Western countries will be very high. As John Sawers, the head of MI6, told a parliamentary committee last week: “Our adversaries are rubbing their hands with glee, al-Qa’ida is lapping it up.” Perhaps Snowden could now tell us about the intelligence capabilities of his hosts, the Russians.
The anguished cries form the usual suspects insisting that Tony Abbott should “apologise” are about as sensible as they are sincere. Clearly its not really about our relationship with Indonesia as much as its about seeking vindication for their claims that Tony Abbott is not up to the top job of being our PM. Once again the current government is being saddled with a mess created on Labor’s watch and the chutzpah of leftist minions chiding Tony Abbott for sticking to the long standing convention about neither confirming or denying anything about intelligence gathering is breathtaking in its opportunistic hypocrisy. Frankly if minions of the left are so keen on an apology to Indonesia then they should be seeking one from Kevin Rudd and or the relevant former ministers from the class of 2009 when the phone tapping is alleged to have occurred.

“Asylum seekers” illegal immigrants and personal responsibilty for their fate.
When it comes to the politics of blame you have to hand it to “Asylum seekers” illegal immigrants for the utter gall of blaming Australia for their plight.

“I called the Australian embassy; for 24 hours we were calling them. They told us just send us the position on GPS, where are you,” one survivor, Abdullah, a man from Jordan, was reported as saying by Fairfax media. “We did, and they told us, ‘OK, we know … where you are’. And they said, ‘We’ll come for you in two hours’.
“And we wait two hours; we wait 24 hours, and we kept calling them, ‘we don’t have food, we don’t have water for three days, we have children, just rescue us’. And nobody come. Sixty person dead now because of Australian government.”
One of the passengers, a Lebanese man, had reportedly lost his pregnant wife and eight children in the disaster.
Just 25 of those aboard had been rescued before efforts to locate survivors were postponed on Friday evening due to failing light.
It’s believed to be the first fatal attempted asylum-seeker crossing under the Abbott government, and comes after another group of 44 asylum seekers were rescued by an Australian navy vessel in the Sunda Strait on Thursday.
Just to be clear these people set out from Indonesia in an overloaded crappy boat and it founders in Indonesian waters a long way from either international waters or Australia’s rescue zone and we are to blame for the subsequent drownings? Man oh man the leftist mindset is just utterly fucked. Whatever happened to to taking personal responsibility for the consequences of ones actions?
No one forced them onto the high seas in an unsuitable and unreliable vessel that was their own choice and a very stupid one indeed given the change of government and the change of policy that means that they will never get permanent residency in this country.
Personally I can not for the life of me understand why it is the case that Indonesia does not station more of its own navy assets in the area given the number of “Asylum seekers” illegal emigrants that foolishly go for “pleasure cruises” in this part of their rescue zone. Frankly their failure to do so shows that they are the ones who don’t care. Meanwhile our navy is doing the heavy lifting by pulling the bodies ,alive and dead, from Indonesian waters as the “Asylum seekers” illegal immigrants treat them like some kind of free taxi service.
The solution is simple we should move our navy assets out of the area and make that repositioning so they are well out of range very widely known. If needs be lets give a patrol boat to Indonesia so that they can rescue the idiots who are killing their own children * and then blaming us and then the question of where to take those rescued fools will be moot.

Is it the love of beer that prevents Damian Doyle from converting to Islam?
Damian Doyle has always struck me as a strange individual, so sanctimonious and so judgemental of yours truly and so full of condescension for anyone who does not hold beliefs concurrent with his own. He is an avid consumer of what I call “disaster porn” and if there is some natural disaster in the third world he is onto it like a flash tweeting about it or decrying the tardy response of the west to said disasters. Anyway our Damian has written a rather wordy piece about the way that Islam is perceived in this country and in it he sneers at any and all criticism of that faith.
During the question and answer session it became clear that many members of the audience were genuinely curious about Islam. Having heard so many terrible things about the religion – not just at the forum but elsewhere too – they wanted to understand its core teachings and central texts. One woman commented she had attempted to read the Qur’an but found it unintelligible and confusing. That’s a pretty normal response as it’s a very different book to, say, the New Testament. “So where can we learn more about Islam?”
The response at that forum, naturally enough under the circumstances, was not all that helpful. The conveners were unanimous in their advice, “There’s an excellent website called Jihad Watch, which is run by an organisation that we’re linked with. Its main author, Robert Spencer, has also written a lot of books that are essential reading”.
Of course, you don’t need to attend a meeting of the Q Society, a fringe group fighting the good fight against the ‘Islamisation of Australia’ and the implementation of sharia law in our school tuckshops, to meet people who see Islam as a baffling unknown. Through conversations in pubs and coffee shops, by reading letters in tabloid newspapers and on blogs, or by listening to commentary on television or radio, it’s easy to see that Islam is a poorly understood religion in Australia.
Notice the way that Doyle frames his barely concealed contempt for anyone who is critical of Islam? The reference to Tuck-shops is clearly an allusion to the cruelty concerns of the issue of the conversion of institutional food sources to halal even when only a very tiny number of the consumers are Muslim. It seems to me that Doyle is suggesting that only very favourable discussion of Islam should ever be listened to and considered and that anything that is at all critical of Islam is haram.
Please dear readers go to his piece and you will find a great example of quisling rhetoric in full flight, an essay that even tries to play down the significance of Female Genital Mutilation Note his choice of words to describe the practice:
A sad example of this is the issue of female genital cutting. The attendees at the Q Society forum would have been left with the impression that female genital cutting is an Islamic practice as an example of the religion’s repression and abuse of women. By contrast, the conference attendees heard an account of a pre-Islamic cultural practice being eliminated from a community as a result of a local imam’s leadership during the 1950s.
Yes Damian we have all heard that line and although it may be true in the most pedantic sense for every Muslim society that abhors and rejects the practice there are many others who are at best indifferent to the vile practice..
It seems to me that for Damian dreams about is an uncritical acceptance of Islam and the practice of the faith, both here and elsewhere in the world, and a substantive deference to the sensitivities of those who follow that faith. Thus he wants no criticism of the hot heads who call for the beheading of unbelievers and he wants to see nothing but positive PR for the faith within the Australian community.:
And so I’ve decided to start small. To think about the things I can influence, rather than those I can’t. People will decide for themselves what to believe about Islam and its role in society, both in Australia and globally. Some will continue to reach out to sources of information that, in my view, are toxic and uninformed. I need to remember that a simple thing I can do is to let them know there are other sources, that those sources can be trusted, and that obtaining information from a range of sources is the best way to become informed.
The trouble with this exercise in parsimony, as readers of this blog will know, is that Damian considers any sort of criticism of Islam at all is an example of “bigotry” and I can’t help thinking that the only thing that is preventing Damian from going the whole hog to making the declaration ” There is no god but Allah and Mohamed is his prophet” must be Mr Doyle’s love of beer.
