Charles Ramsey – HERO !!

(by Ray Dixon)

“You’ve got some big testicles to pull that off, bro” (Charles Ramsey expressing surprise that his next-door neighbour was secretly keeping 3 women hostage)

I don’t know if there’s a reward for the rescue of the three women who had been held captive for 10 years in a Cleveland Ohio house but, if so, it just has to go to this bloke, next-door-neighbour Charles Ramsey.

And not just because Ramsey’s the one who answered the distressed calls of Amanda Berry and got her out of the house leading to a 911 call that then led to the rescue of the other two (and subsequent arrest of the owner and his two brothers), but also – and mainly – for this incredible and hilarious impromptu interview he gave to a TV journo soon after.

Make sure you watch it – it really picks up half way through. Ramsey’s a natural, almost a comedian. And, in my sincere opinion, he IS a true hero and deserves $1 million or more for what he’s done.

    I saw this story yesterday and like You I was amazed at this chaps interview amazed too about the women surviving and remaining prisoners fro more than a decade. The perps if found guilty deserve the harshest punishment possible, sadly their crimes will not earn them a capital sanction even though it should.

    “I had barbecues with this dude – I sang salsa with him”

  3. Iain Hall says:

    Well it just goes to show that we may not really know our neighbours even when we have lived next to them for a long time. But I just love that fact that he did not hesitate to rescue the woman and her child.

  4. Ray Dixon says:

    Me too. He’s a hero – an accidental one, but a hero nonetheless.

  5. Ray Dixon says:

    This story (on Ramsey) just gets better. From ABC Online:

    Mr Ramsey rejected the hero tag, saying he did what any other human being would do.

    “I don’t even want it (attention), nor even looking for it,” he told Cleveland TV station WKYC3.

    “That’s why when they keep saying I’m a hero, let me tell you something. I’m American and I’m a human being – I’m just like you. I work for a living.

    “There was a woman in distress, so why turn your back on that? My father would have whooped the hell out of me if he found out I cowarded out … I’m the definition of a man.”

    He sure is. Those words are so good.

  6. Ray Dixon says:

    Uh, oh – there are doubts about Charles’ story:

    He has a “past”:

    The Associated Press reports Mr Ramsey’s rap sheet is dotted with incidences of domestic violence, including:
    •A charge in 1997;
    •A charge in 1998 and a six-month jail term;
    •A five-year probation term and orders to join counselling;
    •A divorce in 2003 after “battering his wife” and an eight-month jail term.

    And he mightn’t be telling the truth about the rescue:

    another neighbour, Angel Cordero, claims Mr Ramsey doesn’t deserve all the credit for Amanda Berry, because: “I helped her first”.
    “Ramsey arrived after she was outside with the girl,” he told a local Cleveland TV network, NewsChannel 5.
    “But the truth who arrived there, who crossed the street, who came and broke the door, it was me.”
    And that now-famous 911 call Amanda Berry made? A third neighbour, Wintel Tejeda, claims that Ms Berry was in his house at the time.

    It was still a bloody good interview though.

  7. Iain Hall says:

    Really in that run down neighbour hood you would not expect any angels, As you say though it was still a great sound grab the way that he described events

  8. GD says:

    Over at the ABC they’re breathing a sigh of relief that there weren’t any Muslims involved.

  9. Richard Ryan says:

    GD—-I wonder what secrets we have deep down in your perverted hate filled life.

  10. Iain Hall says:

    PROSECUTORS may seek the death penalty for the Ohio man charged with kidnapping and raping three women and violently terminating their pregnancies.

    “I fully intend to seek charges for each and every act of sexual violence, rape, each day of kidnapping, every felonious assault, all his attempted murders, and each act of aggravated murder he committed by terminating pregnancies that the offender perpetuated against the hostages during this decade-long ordeal,” Cuyahoga County prosecutor Timothy McGinty said.

    “My office will also engage in a formal process in which we evaluate to seek charges eligible for the death penalty,” he said.

    “The reality is we still have brutal criminals in our midst who have no respect for the rule of law or human life. The law of Ohio calls for the death penalty for those most depraved criminals who commit aggravated murder during the course of a kidnapping.”

    well it will take at least a decade for him to be convicted and executed and he will have to spend all of that time either in solitary confinement or some other form of protective custody so there may be some justice in that, but it may be better for his victims if he is more quickly put down.
