Oh dear, here I go again getting up to my neck in what is fast becoming a national joke – the Queensland State election. Look, if it wasn’t so funny I wouldn’t bother but, give me a break, how can you let this latest news – that an LNP candidate has been caught out lying about his involvement and direct ownership of a pornographic website – go by without comment?
LNP leader Campbell Newman said his party will investigate claims by the Bulletin that Gold Coast LNP candidate Mark Boothman ran a soft porn website.
The Bulletin and goldcoast.com.au broke the news of yet another sex scandal involving an LNP candidate this morning.
The Bulletin revealed Mr Boothman is the registrant, administrative contact and technical contact for DarkOsiris.com, before he was preselected to run in the seat of Albert.
From 2003 to 2008 the site featured pictures and videos of naked women and sex scenes. It promoted “hot sex scenes” and had links such as “Control Your Bitches”, “So much porn” and “hot teen”.The website also contained a restricted adult section and a Da Osiris Club restricted to “VIP members”.
… Mr Boothman initially denied involvement with the site when contacted by the Bulletin last night but later said he had carried out design work on DarkOsiris.com “for a TAFE friend”.
(BUT) When he was told the website was registered in his name with his contact details, he admitted he had a connection to it.
He certainly had more than “a connection”. The Bulletin has confirmed that Boothman was the registrant, administrative contact and technical contact for the porno site and that he ran it from 2003 until he was recently endorsed by the LNP for the Gold Coast seat of Albert – a seat the LNP had ‘pencilled in’ as one they would take from the ALP. Maybe not now?
Gee, that makes three seats where the LNP (sorry, the LSD & P party) might yet snatch defeat from the jaws of victory:
1) Broadwater: Two former Broadwater LNP candidates were forced to step down because of breaches of what the LNP described as their party’s strict standards. Last month the party disendorsed its second Broadwater candidate, solicitor Cameron Caldwell, for attending a swingers club four years ago. Mr Caldwell had replaced the party’s original choice Richard Towson, who was dumped after he was caught drink-driving.
2) Ashgrove: Where Campbell Newman himself trails the sitting ALP member following revelations of his dubious dealings with property developers.
3) Albert: And this one’s a cert – it’s too late to replace Boothman!
Someone once told me something about these kind of organisational stuff ups that I’ll never forget. It holds true in so many cases, be it personal, corporate or political:
- Once is an accident.
- Twice is a coincidence.
- Three times is a habit.
You could also add ‘Three strikes and you’re out’.
Well, maybe they’re not out just yet but, the way it’s going, poor little (very little) Campbell Newman – the man who admits he “can’t keep his hands above the waist” – might yet lead the LNP to an inglorious defeat.
Advice to Anna Bligh: Just say nothing. Don’t campaign. Don’t even advertise. Stay home or go on a holiday … and let the LSD & P party destroy itself.
Ah Queensland, controversial one day, a riot the next.
From my point of view Ray its no big deal, but then I’m rather liberal about sex and erotic content on the net, that said I still reckon that it won’t be enough to save Anna Bligh and such muck raking often has a greater negative impact on those who do the digging rather than the those upon whom the dirt is flung.
It may make the difference between Bligh losing in a massive Landslide and Bligh losing very badly indeed but that is about all
You mean you’re rather Liberal National Party about it don’t you, Iain? Just because it’s legal (or barely legal, who knows what was on the “VIP” page?), doesn’t mean it’s appropriate for a potential MP to be involved in. It’s sleazy, Iain. Newman is sleazy too – if you listen to him he’s very ‘below the waist’ in his demeanour. And it looks like he’s attracted like-minded souls to his side as candidates. Swingers, drunk drivers, pornographers, shady property deals and donations – it’s all part of the new look LSD&P party you’ve got going up there. Anything goes. She’ll be right, mate and hey, it’s a man’s world, what’s your problem? They should attach those slogans to all their ads if they think (like you do) that it’s all okay.
Newman has just been on the news denying that it was a porn site Ray and as the site has been off-line since 2006 there is no way of absolutely removing the essentially unfounded smear. It is however indicative of just how desperate the ALP are that they have spent so much effort on their dirt unit rather than on developing good policy that we Queenslanders can vote for.
More ALP rubbish, one would hope that you would read the whole article , please find some of it you didn’t publish,,,,,
y u speak no of the alp nazi
Dave, the part you refer to is an update and wasn’t there when I wrote this post. Anyway, here it is for what it’s worth, which doesn’t seem to be much:
But the Gold Coast Bulletin – NOT THE ALP – still says this:
Iain, this sounds very much like:
a) It was a porn (and then some) site.
b) Boothman is lying.
If the LNP go with this story (well, I guess Newman has no other choice, it’s too late to replace him!) then they’ll do themselves more harm. All by themselves. Candidates’ pasts are legitimate election issues so why shouldn’t the ALP or the media (looks more like the media in this case) look into somthing as controversial as this? If it happened it’s news.
UPDATE:
Here is the Wayback Machine archive of Boothman’s website darkosiris.com that he claims was a car enthusiast’s site that was hijacked in 2004 and had porn uploaded:
http://wayback.archive.org/web/20030915000000*/http://DarkOsiris.com
As you can see, the first snapshots in 2003 (ie at its inception) clearly indicate that it was an ‘adult’ site. Click on 20th March 2003 and it states right up front:
The icons include “Tatu girls show all”, ” Extra Pictures – Caliescali Babes – Columbian Webpage – 5 Star”
On 26th March 2003, it states “Restricted page up and running again”
This strongly indicates that BOOTHMAN IS LYING.
Get over it Ray. The Libs are going to win the election. With gay marriage, surrogate gay parenthood and late term abortion being touted as normal behaviour, I don’t think a consensual swingers party is anything to raise eyebrows about. A porn site? Who cares? It’s legal.
This is a state election. The main show in town is your deceitful Federal Labor Party. Your incumbent fools have forced a carbon tax on both business and the private sector. This tax will do nothing other than attempt to fill Labor’s depleted coffers. In addition, they’ve run up astronomical debt for minuscule return. They’re the clowns you should be denigrating rather than a state election that really has nothing to do with you and your sheltered Victorian lifestyle.
Leave the rednecks to the rednecks. They don’t need lefties from Victoria passing judgement. After all, Queensland is making a profit at the moment, Victoria is in dire straits.
http://www.smh.com.au/business/victorias-economy-shifts-down-into-the-slow-lane-20110203-1afka.html
I bet Mr “Boot the man” is lying.
The car enthusiast site he is referring to is AutoCraz.com and that never seems to have been hacked. However, it linked to “Dark Osiris Girls & Models”, see here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20030608011706/http://www.autocraz.com/
And Newman just believes the guy, like he expects us to believe everything he says: “Don’t you worry about that …”
GD, most of the issues you mention are Federal ones. Did Anna Bligh introduce a carbon tax? Can Campbell Newman reverse it? No & no. I happen to think the integrity & character of those who would be parliamentarians ARE important considerations, unlike you, who seems to think it doesn’t matter how sleazy these people are, as long as they are from the conservative side then, “she’ll be right”.
And it has as much to do with me – a Victorian – as it does to do with GD from Western Sydney, NSW. There are no borders that say, “only Queenslanders can have an opinion on what goes on in Queensland”. It’s all part of Australia. As Pauline would say, it’s “One Nation”.
Btw, I’m not sure which planet you’re living on but Victoria’s economy is hardly in “dire straits”. But if you’re right and we are in the shite, then blame the Vic State Liberal govt of Red Ted Baillieu, who wouldn’t know what goes on beyond the inner city and bayside suburbs (“Nathalia is flooding?”, says Ted. “Where’s that?”). Likewise if Qld is “making a profit” then it’s credit to Bligh and the ALP. You’re trying to have it both ways, Mr Rusted-On Conservative man.
Yes, John, very interesting and further confirmation of Boothman’s lies. How long before this hits the media and Newman is forced to dump him? From your WayBack link:
Um, it’s an adult content site. He’s lied, GD.
This is the current status of that domain name. With appropriate bolding – the guy is an idiot.

Ray you should appreciate that there is a big difference between a site that features pretty girls in Bikinis and a porn site, the link provided by John, shows evidence of the former rather than later
Where there’s smoke there’s fire, Iain. Read my earlier comment that links to the WayBack archive in March 2003. The site stated:
“Some material on this page is of adult nature and is not suitable for a person under the age of 18“.
And “Tatu girls show all”
The point is Boothman claimed that this content was placed by hackers in 2004, however it’s clear that the site had adult content from the outset in 2003. He has lied about it.
I have just recovered JM’s comment from the spam bin and I am having the most hearty laugh as I type this response! for a commentator who was adamant that he was done with commenting here its taken him what is it? about three weeks to come crawling back! Oh the joy of a person who has resolve as strong as JM’s!!!
His claim was that SOME content was added by hackers Ray which is quite possible from my own experience of being Hacked.
Please, Iain, he did not say that. From the GC Bulletin:
So he has made out that the site was not set up as an adult one and that all the adult content was added by hackers – which is not the truth. How you and Newman can defend this liar is beyond me. If it weren’t for the fact it’s too late to replace him, Boothman would have already been disendorsed. Leaving him there is pointless – he’ll lose the seat and he’s just an embarrassment.
Ray
In the first instance I don’t think that there is anything wrong with erotic content on the web as long as it only features consenting adults and secondly I seem to appreciate the difference between “adult content” and pure pornography than you do.
That said you seem to be getting very excited about the semantics here where as Up here the whole story is proving to be nothing more than a spin laden side show.of greater importance are the instances of government incompetence from Anna Bligh, things like the still unresolved problems with paying nurses properly, the fire sale of government assets, Dam management during the 2011 flood event, The list is sadly endless and far out weighs any little peccadilloes from LNP candidates.
So anything goes as long as it’s not rape or paedophilia, Iain? You should join the Greens. Don’t you think the proliferation of ‘adult’ sites on the Internet is a blot on the landscape and contributes to the desensitisation among our youth regarding sexual activity norms and what is acceptable and what is not? Bondage and ‘bitch slapping’ is a good thing for them to have easy access to, is it?. Tits and dildos everywhere, eh?
The point is, Iain, that if people want to cash in on this then, okay, it’s legal and so (regardless of one’s moral or social outlook) who are we to condemn them? I agree with that part. But I don’t agree that such people (ie. peddlers of porn, be it soft or hard) should represent the community as an elected State MP, do you? If Boothman were an ALP candidate you’d be agreeing with me. And I’d have the same view.
I’m not a porn afiocondo, Iain, but I’m no wowser either. I just don’t appreciate it at all and, quite frankly, I reckon viewing porn is a waste of time and generally sleazy.
Working the night desk again JM? Welcome back.
Can I ask a question, Ray? You say that porn is legal, we shouldn’t condemn anyone who views it but we don’t want such a person being a State MP. Why not? You’ve just said 1) it’s legal and 2) who are we to sit in judgement, so I really don’t see what your point is. Unless it’s categorically wrong (which according to law it is not and you yourself have said we should not judge), why can’t Mr Boothman be an MP?
As a traditionalist, I can state quite clearly that Mr Boothman is unfit for office because of his involvement in porn and subsequent lying, both of which I see as moral failures. But you, Ray, have to make an unprincipled exception to your beliefs to account for why he is unfit. You’ve just reached your own ‘unease’ limit or your own personal ‘yuck’ factor. It is not a principle to which you are holding.
That’s very convoluted, Luzu, or are you just intent on shooting the messenger here? Anyway, to answer you:
Just because I accept that it’s a legal practice to peddle porn (and it is – otherwise Boothman could be charged) doesn’t mean I have to agree he’s fit to serve as an MP. I’ve already explained why – I think it’s sleazy, and I don’t want sleazebags in Parliament, nor do many of those he purports to represent. You, on the other hand, agree with me on that point but more because you think it’s immoral. You’ve basically answered your own question.
“Who are we to condemn them?” This is what you said in your other comment. But here you are condemning Boothman for doing the very thing you say we shouldn’t condemn! Can you see why I’m confused, Ray?
I don’t like Campbell Soup or captain Bligh. Unfortunately I’ll get fined if i don’t vote for somebody. Guess I’ll have to make a difficult choice between Donald duck or mickey mouse again.
Yes, I can see that you are VERY confused, Luzu. And don’t quote me out of context please. This is what I said:
There is no contradiction or bending of principles in that statement, Luzu. I am simply saying we cannot “condemn” him for breaking any laws but, nonetheless, we can certainly have the opinion that a person who sets out to profit from peddling pornography is not of acceptable character to be an MP. You have agreed it’s not illegal too and, therefore, by extension you are also saying we can’t “condemn” him on legal grounds. But then you (like me) find it reprehensible that he should go on to be an MP, for slightly different reasons.
Are you done wasting my time now?
Oh, please, Ray. Get off your high horse. You quite clearly said people who make money from porn sites shouldn’t be condemned because it’s legal. You then proceeded to condemn Boothman as unfit for office on the basis of his running a porn site. If anyone’s confused, Ray, it’s you. Or perhaps hatred of the LNP overwhelmed your normally concise and articulate self. Whatev.
I suggest you’re the one on the “high horse”, Luzu, with your pedantic splitting of straws, convoluted logic and attempts to shoot the messenger. I’ll say it again (one last time):
Boothman, as a private citizen, cannot be condemned for running a porn site because it is a legal activity. But just because it’s legal does not mean he’s fit for office. It is not an either/or position like you try to paint it. Look at the other LNP candidate who was disendorsed for attending a LEGAL swinger’s party. Why? Because even though it’s legal to attend swingers parties it’s not the type of behaviour that the LNP wants from its candidates. They would have disendorsed Boothman too if it wasn’t for the fact it’s too late to replace him.
You are trying to say that I am only taking this position because Boothman is from the LNP. That’s totally incorrect. I would see it the same way if he were ALP, just like I think Craig Thomson should be disendorsed.
That will do with the nitpicking please – let’s leave it at that. You’ve wasted enough of my time.
Another bad poll for Newman in the seat of Ashgrove:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-03-10/newman-behind-in-latest-poll/3881270
Maybe he should disendorse himself?
Ray I still think that he will win the seat despite what the polls say. There is may a slip twixt cup and lip and I think that with our optional preferential voting Newman still has a better than even chance of winning the seat.
