The post that I wrote at this blog about err, “intimate female grooming” is still regularly found by search engines and it was nothing but a bit of blogging fluff about depilatory wax that was just a little too hot. This story reported in today’s Courier Mail raises some more serious questions especially for those of us with growing daughters .
Mt Gravatt Brazilian Beauty manager Avril Radford said the youngest girl to get a Brazilian at her salon was only 14.
”Personally I think any girl under 16 getting a Brazilian is a bit young,” she said. Ms Radford said the store required girls under 16 to get parental consent before intimate treatments.
Brazilian Beauty in Brisbane has also received requests from early teens wanting a full Brazilian wax.
”Mostly it is girls around 16 but we do occasionally get younger girls in, but they must have a parent with them,” the store manager said.
Brazilian World owner Ligia Taylor said under 16 was too young to get bikini waxes.
Unlike Hetty Johnson I don’t think that pressure to undergo these sorts of “beauty treatments” comes from boyfriends , I think that it comes from the female peer groups and the desire to be members of the “cool crowd”. I’m definitely no wowser but the idea that any child under the age of consent having a Brazilian just sounds totally wrong to me and it seems to me there is a very good argument for preventing waxing businesses offering their service to under-age girls.
Cheers Comrades
Oh, Iain, you’ve suddenly gone from a de-regulator and LNP supporter to a Bigger Gov’mint man overnight?
But, seriously, what about those girls, like a few in my family, cursed with an over-supply of testosterone, the ones with visible, dark, hair down their arms and legs. With moustaches and a problem hiding the rest inside their one-piece swimmers even? Do they trim, as many manage with, do they shave, as more do, or do they get the lot done from time to time at a professional waxing studio?
If you’re quite young how do you learn the correct way to do the job? Or do you just believe that they should try the old-fashioned was or trial and error?
Get into the 21st century Iain! Stop being such a cringe-monger when it isn’t your piece of cake and let others have theirs.
Lin
I do appreciate that some girls may wish to trim/pluck some unwanted body hair but the focus of my criticism here is not that but the trend for “clear felling” the lot!
To my mind there is no justification for this if a girl is under the age of consent.
I’m not touching this one….

No Iain, it comes from everywhere, it is a cultural thing in the west today that women keep their budgie plucked (so to speak) and that pubic hair is ugly. Beats me why, because personally I think it’s weird trying to make 16, 18, 21 year old females look like they are still pre-pubescent. Have you looked at any porn made in the last 20 years? I reckon 80 percent of the actresses have no pubes. The argument I have heard is that it feels smoother, cleaner and better during sex. But if that is the case then why don’t most men do the same? I suspect I know why….

I wonder very much just how many women actually go for the “plucked budgie” but I think that it has more to do with wanting to see the playing field and a desire to restrict flossing to teeth cleaning time as much as it has to wanting to make women look like prepubescent girls.
From what I have seen of porn I really don’t think that you can make such a blanket statement and have a factual basis for your claim. It is possible these days to see every possible expression of pubic hair. As for the Blokes well many rip out the thatch too because it makes their bits look bigger.

A lot, Iain. My wife gets her legs waxed and the lady who does it tells her she does 20-25 Brazilians a day. Not aware of any stats but I suspect that there would be thousands of women out there with no carpet on the floorboards.

Well maybe. But we are both speculating. As for porn, well I haven’t done any hard research (scuse the pun) but from what I have seen the times I have looked at Internet porn out of curiosity, a lot more female porn stars have no pubic hair.
Well my research shows that you can find all types just as you can find any “speciality” that takes your fancy from there is just not any standard “porn star” style any more. You can chalk that up to the diversity of the web. Just do a web search for “Hairy girls” (not recommended at work or at home if your wife objects, but it is “research” 😉 )and you will find thousands of images of girls with “carpet on the floor boards”
I dunno about the “plucked budgie” look but I reckon there’s something to be said for keeping ‘the bush’ under control.

Iain mate you can probably find a website dedicated to men under 5’6″ who slide zucchinis up dog’s bums, if that’s your thing. When I say porn I was talking about the mainstream/run of the mill stuff, where the majority if not most of the women are shaved, or just have that landing strip. I believe women with their full quota of pubic hair are often categorized under the “fetish” tag these days, which is ridiculous because it’s NATURAL not a kinky fetish.
Anyway I would do some ‘research’ to back it up but I only use the Internet from work at the moment, and I’m not looking at porn here, not even through a proxy. But I do remember being amazed at the lack of pubes the last time I checked out some porn sites.
Ray, yes you should always trim your hedge. Just as the ladies dont like older men with nose hairs and ear hairs that dangle in the breeze. Keeping it neat is one thing, cutting it off is another.
Paul
The point that I am trying to make is that the sources of porn have become so diversified that you just can not say that any one thing is the “norm” any more.
