Kiwi anti-sodomites buggered?

The message is clear!

“We don’t want sodomy in our home. That’s not the same thing as saying we are anti-gay,”

On the surface this sounds like straight-out discrimination against same-sex couples (being lesbians, in this case).

But I smell a bit of a set-up:

The owners of a New Zealand guesthouse who refused to let a lesbian couple share a bed are standing firm despite threats.

Karen and Michael Ruskin, of Pilgrim Planet Lodge, in central Whangarei, say they have received death threats and verbal abuse over their stance on homosexuality.

… Lesbian couple Jane Collison, 30, and Paula Knight, 45, decided not to stay at the lodge on May 7 after being told they could only have a room with single beds.

They had booked online a room with a king-sized bed but Mrs Ruskin said that when the couple arrived they were told the lodge’s policy was for same-sex couples to be put into a room with two king-single beds.

The engaged couple decided not to stay but could not find other accommodation until they got to Waipu.

Mrs Ruskin said she was sorry for the couple’s inconvenience but was standing firm on her morals and the sanctity of her home.

The Ruskins live in the bed and breakfast-style lodge, where guests share lounge, kitchen and living areas.

“It’s our home – it’s not a motel.”

The lesbians have since filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission claiming discrimination due to their sexual orientation but the owners claim they have a legal right (and indeed a precedent) to say who will share their residential accommodation:

She said that in 2010 a gay couple also complained to the commission after being asked to sleep apart, but that complaint was withdrawn when the exception for shared accommodation came to light.

Hmm, I’m starting to wonder if this incident was a case of gay activists deliberately targeting the Pilgrim Planet in a sort-of payback or even a re-test of the exemption, now that gay marriage has been legalised in New Zealand.

I wonder why they chose this place, which already has ‘form’ for rejecting gay couples, and which also states right upfront on its website’s home page that they, err, cater to only certain people:

*Our nation’s moral code has been based on generally accepted values which have guided legislation. Essentially parliament’s concern is matters legal and the peoples’ concern is matters moral. Unjust laws need to be questioned for if we fail to do this we will become corrupted by the law instead of edified and protected by it. You are welcome to stay in our home, whatever your beliefs, so long as you respect and understand ours.

And just in case the lesbian couple missed that bit when they booked online, they surely must have seen this on the bookings page:

Pilgrim Planet – modern accommodation with old fashioned values! …….. We reserve the right to change any rooms that have been booked on-line at our discretion.

I’m in the accommodation business too, but I wouldn’t go imposing any ‘moral values’ on our guests. We’ve had gays & lesbians stay here at GG and it doesn’t bother us in the slightest. All we ask is that guests don’t disturb others and don’t leave the place in a mess. Quite frankly (and I don’t mean to stereotype here), our homosexual guests are generally much tidier than most others, especially those guests with little kids. As for what they do in the beds, well our linen is hired in for each stay so we don’t have to wash it anyway!

Then again, our units are completely separate and fully self-contained, whereas the Pilgrim Planet is actually an oversized house that merely lets out bedrooms and allows its guests to share most of the house, it seems. It’s not the sort of accommodation I’d choose to supply – to anyone – because the only people I like sleeping in my house are my own direct family. Yeah, we even put our relatives in the units when they visit (at no charge of course!)

I sort of think the Ruskins, if homosexuality offends them so much, are simply in the wrong business. But I also think the lesbian couple would (or should have) known in advance that they would be discriminated against – I mean, just the name Pilgrim Planet should have been a dead giveaway that mein host was a little bit on the churchie side, don’t you think?

Anyway … they’re just bloody Kiwis, who cares?

I think I might ban all New Zealanders from GG full stop – I wonder if that’s discrimination?

Its not evidence of conservative capture of the ABC

Let me begin by saying that I like the ABC , I would rate its news reporting above all others in the country, some of my favourite entrainment is broadcast by Auntie and better yet they do not carry advertising within the body of their programming, endless promotion for their own programs and products between shows is another issue which niggles rather than making me seethe but I accept it with the knowledge that its still better than the commercial alternatives. Which brings us to the topic of today’s post namely political bias in its News and current affairs:

While I agree that the sample size of the entire survey is too small to draw definitive conclusions about the ABC the vibe that long time conservative viewers like yours truly gets in listening to their radio and watching their TV news reporting suggests that the survey is what I would have expected. One thing that I am sure of though is that those minions of the far left who have been running the argument that the ABC is now a creature of the coalition are seeing the criticism of the Gillard government entirely the wrong way. Its not evidence of conservative capture of the ABC its evidence of just how bad the government is when even the left leaning ABC feel compelled to be openly hostile and overtly critical of our inept, dishonest and morally bankrupt Labor government.

To my mind this picture is a strong reminder that it is unlikely that there will be another Labor PM before these school children are old enough to vote its also worth noting that Gillard has once again changed her Twitter avatar, finally I can’t help thinking that being seen with chooks is politically silly because it brings this creative animation to mind.

I know its not much but I have been trying to commit a neatness around here and doing a few little jobs like replacing the TV antenna which has been most fruitful as we now get all of the free to air channels which means that I will be able to watch so much more crap should I choose to do so, hmm I think I will pass on most of that. None the less my son is delighted to be able to watch ABC 3. Of course I can’t do much at a time but I approach it like eating an elephant, one bite at a time!

Another thing that has been taking up some of my time is tinkering with my car I have recently fixed a transmission leak caused by loose bolts on the Oil pan , I have also ordered a lovely set of stainless steel headers, which are not as you might expect custom made they are in fact intended for a FWD Sentra which uses the same family of engine as the Pulsar that I got my donor motor from. The will work because I already have my exhaust running under the engine to exit on the driver’s side so I expect to be able to get away with just modifying the intermediate pipe that currently connects to the stock cast iron manifold should only take an hour so to change these over, They promise a 10% increase in performance but I will be happy if they just sound nice. I was going to wait until my brother had paid me for a ride on mower I am selling him but Once I saw the Aussie dollar in decline against the Green-back I felt compelled to buy sooner rather than later. You guessed it I’m buying from the USA and its amazing how cheap the headers are, a measly $105 USD plus $125USD for shipping, The cheapest Aussie made system is $240 plus shipping($35) and that is for mild steel with a crappy painted finish. Is it any wonder that Australian manufacturing can’t compete?

I dunno why we ever had a baby bonus in the first place. This was babyfaced Liberal Treasurar Pete Costellos only contribution to society in his whole time in Parliament – getting 16 year old bogan girls out of school and into Harvey Norman looking for Plasma TVs. If you thought Labor wasted money handing out stimulus cheques of $900 then what about the waste caused by smarmy Pete? Not to mention the type of stimulation he caused in young unmarried girls.

But Wayne swans budget this week brings an end to Costellos $5000 baby bonus but not until the 1st of March next year. This clever trick is designed to get all would-be-parents on the job to get up the duff this week to make sure there kid pops out with a bag full of money.

The implacatins of this political cost saving move are already being felt. And I am not just talkin about at the chemist who are no longer able to shift condoms.

I am talkin about Down the pub where-By blokes like me are now getting prepositioned by all manner of single young bogan females looking to cash in before the dead line.

I have made several agreements based on a 50/50 share of the five grand.

You lot should get in on this scheme before its too late. These chicks dont even care what you look like. I recommend The Burvale or the Ferntree Gully hotels as the best places to advertise your rentadick.

And Its very bad news for the AFL especially Collingwood who are expecting record low crowds over the weekend as 90% of there bogan feral fans will be too busy (and too stuffed) to go to the game.

See I knew i could tie this back into the footy – its called a sedge way. Here are my tips:

West Coast v North Melbourne: This has been billed as the clash of the big black Fijian Nic Knackersnewie from West Coast Coast and the big black Sudanease player Magic Door from North. Magic has only played 4 games and Knackersnewie is a proven star so I will go for the Eagles.

Essendon v Brisbane: The bombers will not even need to cheat to win this one.

Hawthorn v Greater western sydney: Put your money on a record score.

Gold Coast v Western Footscray: Beating Melbourne in Melbourne last week was like a premiership for the GC but There is no way they can win two-in-a-row.

Collingwood v Geelong: Half of the Collingwood team has been out all week shagging bogan girls so they will be too rooted to play. But Geelong players are gays so they will be fresh.

Sydney v Fremantle: I could go either way here. Like Adam Goodes does.

Carlton v Port Adelaide: I am tempted to tip the upset here but it is in Emirates stadium in Melbourne under a roof.

Richmond v Melbourne: Look if anyone is capable of losing the unloseable it is Richmond but I think they will just scrape in. How come Melbourne is still in the AFL?

Adelaide v St Kilda: I am not prepared to go against Rays orders.

I have to go now – I hav another appointment with someone called Cheyarne from Cranbourne South.

The fine art of being credible

As I predicted several times in this blog Tony Abbott has decided to Keep Labor’s “compensation” package when the hated Carbon Tax is deservedly thrown out after September 14:

This is utterly brilliant politics that very neatly cuts Labor off from the otherwise guaranteed scare campaign about the coalition and it renders Gillard and Co impotent in their attacks. While I’m sure that those true believers who are fighting their utter despair with disbelief and denial will crash very hard on September 14 ordinary Labor voters like those on Pensions and benefits can breathe a sigh of relief that they won’t be the ones feeling the pain for Labor’s maladministration of the nation over the last six years. However those in cushy jobs in the Climate change edifice will be quaking in their boots right now as they will be madly searching for new positions, now before the post September rush.

Over all I think that what Abbott offers here is entirely sensible both politically and economically and he has managed to press all of the right buttons more importantly what he says is credible, something Wayne Swan is utterly incapable of being.

This post is nothing special, Labor’s budget certainly has nothing to inspire me, their smoke was rather thin and their mirrors were far from shiny but I expected nothing less than that to be honest. Like a lot of voters I have long ago learned that Nothing said by Swan is to be believed. In any event I think its reasonable to expect that an incoming Abbott government will be having a “mini budget” at the earliest possible opportunity after September 14 so the hogwash presented last night will be pretty well flushed away in the blink of an eye.

In this budget they are planning to spend 25 billion on roads and rail infrastructure but that item in the budget is rather illusory because it is all predicated upon the states kicking in an equal amount of funding and we all know that they are all rather strapped for cash at present. This is undoubtedly intended to give Gillard some projects to claim are on their way but also allow them not to happen because the states won’t come to the party. Its just like that railway line announced for western Sydney during the 2010 campaign they will come to nothing.

Its all incredibly yawn inducing if you ask me the soporific began with the deliberate premature release of the majority of the the new measures over the last few weeks and it has been followed by the farcical delivery of the budget by the treasurer. Now we will have to endure further farce as Swan and Gillard beg for applause for their performance when all we want to see is that long hook coming out from the wings to drag them off the national stage …

Its a train wreck and sadly precisely as we expect from Labor..
