Julia Gillard’s “golden shower” on the people of Australia

Saw this comment over at our learned friend’s blog and I just loved the analogy and found the idea of the carbon tax as a “golden shower” on the people of Australia so apt that I just had to share it with the Sandpit’s readers.

As fatiguing as it is to again remind people, Gillard did actually promise a Carbon Price.

Narc – for the record “Carbon Price” is a generic term that captures a range of carbon pricing policies including carbon taxes, emission trading schemes and a range of other policies.

Putting it in terms SB would enjoy, what Gillard has done is a bit like saying to someone “I will probably spray you with liquid at some future time but I promise it won’t be a golden shower”, and then when you are caught actually pissing on them offering the defence that you were always clear that you were going to spray them with a liquid.

Yes Gillard always proposed a Carbon Price, but she was explicit in her promise that the form of carbon pricing policy she adopted wouldn’t be a carbon tax.

Cheers Comrades

I also liked this comment from Splatterbottom:

“Sadly you neglected to mention the bit where Gillard acknowledged that the country wasn’t fully on board with carbon dioxide reduction schemes, said she would consult with the people, form a people’s assembly to have that conversation and when the people were ready, and not earlier than 2013, she would look to introducing something but not a carbon tax. Instead she sold out to the Greens and foisted a monumentally unpopular tax on an unwilling electorate. Then she said she would wear out her shoe leather around the country explaining it, but as usual, this didn’t happen either. Is it any wonder that she has no credibility with the electorate? The sooner this stinking shit-sandwich of a government is booted from office the better.”

What I find with lefties is that merely knowing the facts and pointing them out to them is usually enough to destroy their arguments.

Oh Leon, such language is most unlike you. Sorry though, the date of the next election is the PM’s prerogative alone, and in this case can be as late as 30 November 2013, ie up to 19 months away. You’ll have to wait … and hope like hell that Gillard survives that long. My money says you’ll be facing a rejuvenated ALP under Kevin Rudd.

  3. Stuart.W says:

Good analogy Iain. There’s Ray chirping in with the words “Rudd” and “Rejuvenated”.

I’ve tried to explain to Ray on his blog that the entire Labor brand stinks. Put simply Ray we weren’t meant to be a socialist backwater, the vast majority prefer to think for ourselves and not be nannied by the left.

The drovers dog has more chance of winning than Rudd!

I wish that I could claim the credit for the analogy but I agree that its a beauty, one of the best I]ve seen actaully :)

One of the things that I like about our Ray is his dogged ability to keep faith with the ALP even in the face of obviously looming electoral disaster no matter who is at the helm. I suspect that he does it to convince himself that there is still hope of escaping the abyss.

  5. Iain Hall says:

    Ray
those are “Splatetrbottom’s” words that Leon is quoting from our learned friend’s blog.

  6. Ray Dixon says:

Oh, sorry Leon. Hmm, ‘Golden Showers’, ‘Splatterbottom’ & ‘Shit Sandwich’ – this post has a rather toilet atmosphere going for it.

  7. Iain Hall says:

Are you saying you have a wee* problem with scatological imagery?

    * said with a fake Scottish accent ;)

  8. Ray Dixon says:

You know, one of the reasons I don’t read AOL very much is that gravatar Splatterbottom uses. It’s a close-up of an a/hole, right?

  9. Iain Hall says:

    Yeah Ray it is :(

  10. Craigy says:

I thought everyone at Jeremys blogs suffered from Groupthink, yet you post Mondo and SB here making comments that don’t get snipped and are on the other side of the argument from the so called ‘leftists’……Want to re-think your comments about Pure Poison then boys?

  11. Ray Dixon says:

PP is almost exclusively frequented by the like-minded, Craigy. There’s very little opposing opinion expressed there because to do so would no doubt see you set upon. It’s very boring.

And AOL only allows certain types of dissenters – ones that don’t conclusively prove the author wrong on a regular basis. Any commenters who clearly outpoint him are banned – that’s my experience at least.

  12. Craigy says:

How do you know Ray.?..it sounds like you never read it.

Thay have lots of regular comments from wingnuts, some of them smart and well written. Something that is missing from some of those who write at the sandpit (me included).

  13. Ray Dixon says:

I read it enough to know, Craigy, otherwise I would not have said what I said.

  14. Craigy says:

“There’s very little opposing opinion expressed there because to do so would no doubt see you set upon. It’s very boring.

Clearly you don’t read it enough, if you make this kind of comment.

  15. Ray Dixon says:

Enough to have formed that opinion, Craigy. PP has almost no opposing comments to the main premise of its posts. They nearly all sing from same hymn book. Let’s face it, it’s a very narrowily-based idea to have a blog that merely dissects media reports rather than the actual topic itself. It might help confirm your belief in ‘the media done it’ conspiracy theory but that suggests you need it confirmed. Branch out man!

  16. Iain Hall says:

Well I endorse what Ray is saying about the diversity of commentary at PP and I say that as someone who reads it regularly.

  17. Craigy says:

Do you think this blog or bolts are any better Iain? I seem to be the only lefty who can be bothered chatting with you and Ray and your resident nutters. For some time now it has just been you Ray and the nutters talking to yourselves about your blog wars. If I stop, what then?

  18. GD says:

Bolt’s blog has quite a few resident nutters from the left. They provide much hilarity and entertainment. Nothing that makes sense, but they make you laugh. I feel like crying when I read AOL.

  19. Damage says:

Yes Craigy you’re the only one who understansd.
PP, AOL, Grods and SW. You’re allowed at all so they are all fair.

  20. Iain Hall says:

    Craigy

As you will appreciate of course I think that this blog is better than AOL when it comes to the way dissenting voices are treated and you are not the only lefty here either

  21. Leon Bertrand says:

I think there is more diversity of opinion on this blog than most others I’ve come across.

Ray is moderate lefty, Iain and I are obviously more conservative, although I don’t always agree with Iain (and I’m sure vice versa).

Ray and I disagree on many issues. We’ve had a number of debates.

We get quite a few lefty commenters as well.

And I can’t remember a time when a commenter has been attacked for being a leftist. It’s the person’s beliefs that are usually attacked, not the person.

    And so it should be.

  22. Craigy says:

Okay after a nice red I’ll agree with Leon and say this blog is at least open to most, unless Iain is grumpy and in pain best to be polite when that’s the case.

  23. Ray Dixon says:

Have a whole case, Craigy, and maybe you’ll mellow out.

  24. Craigy says:

Well I won’t be having that high country red you drink….It seems not to work on mellowing you out old sock….Still being personal I see……Thought you didn’t like that? Oh well….
