Team work and individual effort

They are a team

There is an air of desperation clearly evident when a party is considering changing their leader just months out from an election But I think that when it comes to our federal government they have been such a team effort that there would be very little brand differentiation between Labor lead by Rudd and Labor lead by Gillard The have after all been very much a gymnastic duo…

Liberal Party federal director Brian Loughnane yesterday said the Coalition would attack Mr Rudd and Ms Gillard.

“The Coalition is ready whenever Labor calls the campaign. Australians are concerned at Kevin Rudd’s poor leadership and they are concerned at Labor’s reckless spending and mismanagement of which both Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard have been key parts,” he said.

“We’re ready whenever the election might be called.”

But while many Labor backbenchers are showing increasing anger towards the Prime Minister, The Australian has spoken to several Queensland Labor MPs who warn that Ms Gillard would be electorally unpopular in Queensland — where Labor is under the greatest threat.

“She would go down like a lead balloon in Queensland,” the MP said.

The thing is the public have been rather good at seeing through their disguise, of late and when you get under the skin Both Rudd and Gillard are pretty much the same. And they can both be beaten either individually or together.

Cheers Comrades

  1. There is an air of desperation clearly evident when a party is considering changing their leader just months out from an election

I agree. The Liberals were very desperate in 2007 when they tried to replace Howard with Costello just months out from the election.

  2. And Like Howard, Rudd just won’t go easily either so all that will happen is that there will be tons of vote depleting speculation all the way up until polling day by which time it will be too late for Brand Labor

  3. The speculation is only coming from within the Liberals and certain sections of the media, Iain. And it’s fairly obvious why. Of course they don’t want Rudd to face-off with Abbott when the real campaign starts – he’ll destroy him. It’s either a case of wishful thinking on their part or a destabilisation program. It won’t work though. Beazley tried it on Howard in 2001 and fell flat on his face. The voters know the difference and will want some real answers from Abbott as to why they should trust him to steer the ship. And he doesn’t have any.

  4. I don’t think that the push is coming form the Libs Ray nor do I think that Rudd will win.

The ALP have been trying desperately to make Tony Abbott the issue and in reality it is not getting traction with anyone . But when the captain of the ship of state has opened up the sea cocks and we’re taking water it becomes time to think that the feller at the tiller is just not up to it and then anyone has to be better.

  5. Oh, Australia is sinking, Iain? We haven’t avoided the GFC icebergs and survived the roughest seas seen since the 1930s depression? I see.

  6. Iain Kevin Rudd is going to lead the Labor party into the next election and, WIN IT!

Any speculation to the contrary, is a media beat up.

I am currently listening to question time in the house of Reps.

Rudd has already caught out Hockey, Bishop, and Abbott, for mis-leading the house in relation to the mining debate, that’s code for “Porky pies”. He has made them look like idiots.

It will be interesting if the fourth estate picks up on it some time today, and just for a change, report some facts, instead of the fear campaign run by the opposition they are aiding and abetting.

Your contention that Rudd is reinforcing the facts and consequences to the Australian economy, and well being of its citizens, of Abbott as P.M. is indeed correct. He would be a poor politician if he didn’t.The Australian people are not going to let what would amount to a parliamentary freak show run, Australia Pty Ltd.

Your side of politics is up to its old tricks of, long winded rhetoric, distortion of the truth, and out right bloody lies to get rid of what is the most progressive party to have graced the halls of our parliament. This is the last throw of the dice for the mis-guided morons that make up Her Majesty’s opposition. Most of which I might add, couldn’t run a chook raffle in a pub, or indeed find their own arse holes with both hands.

It is going to take more than Pink Batts, a tax on the obscenely rich, and the failure of an ETS to get up, to get rid of Rudd. That grand I bet on the outcome, is safe.

  7. No Ray its not sinking but that is only because we have a rather robust vessel to start with the problem is that the man at the wheel told us that he was a good captain and we have discovered that he was spinning us a line.

  8. Well if you want to stick with the ship analogies, Iain, it did not really matter how robust the ship was when the GFC tidal wave hit. What mattered was steering us out of harm’s way, which is precisely what Rudd did. And that is pecisely why he WILL be re-elected – because there is just no sound reason to change Governments right now. And, despite your wishful thinking and ALP-hating stance .. I think you know that.

  9. Did we survive the global financial crisis because of Rudd’s policies, or because of the solid legacy left by Howard? And more importantly, which came first, the chicken or the egg?

  10. I see nothing to weep about in that poll Lynot it is consistent with all of the others that have suggested a very tight contest, just as I have expected and said is likely.
Given the plunge that your man has had in his own credibility, going from a sure thing to he may just scrape back in is not the sort of CV that I would want going into an election.

  11. Howard just “scraped in” at his first re-election too, Iain. In 1998. He then went on and increased his majority at 2001 & 2004. The first term is the toughest when you set out to reform. You might still be saying “Rudd’s gotta go” in 6 years time.

It’s a moot point, deffredd. Credit goes to the one in charge at the time. Or would you prefer to forget that the Libs opposed the stimulus package all the way and, instead, wanted to give tax cuts to the rich? Their tactic would have been to “survive” it by creating a massive pool of unemployment.

  13. You might still be saying “Rudd’s gotta go” in 6 years time.

You can be sure that if he remains in office I will be saying it sooner than that Ray ;)

Iain I am not going to trawl the net looking for your cock sure comments that “Abbott is the man” you are being very subtle in leaving your self an out, when Rudd is re-elected.

You know as well as anyone the experiment with Abbott is over, it is because the only man in their party that had any chance of taking them to the promised land, as you know, was dumped. You are an ideologue to such an extent, that Turnbull because of his stance on G.W. your pet obsession, and your description of him as flaky, he was just not suited to your liking to take your mob on to a possible victory.

However, if there had been no challenge to Turnbull as leader, I have no doubt according to you he would have been a “Statesman”.I will however give you full marks for staying the course with Abbott, even after the truth be known he is un-electable.

  15. Lynot
I was delighted to see Turnbull ousted because of the CPRS more than anything else, In fact when he took over from Brendan Nelson I was optimistic about his prospects and that of the coalition but the more he got into bed with the government over an ETS the more I was sure that he was heading the wrong way. I still sort of like him but he has had his go and he blew it But you are wrong I would be arguing Ray style and saying a “plague on both of their houses”! about federal politics

Just in case you think that you need to read every post here to find what I think about Tony Abbott click here

  16. Iain I may look like a cabbage I ain’t GREEN.Well a little bit.

I don’t believe anything Labor/Liberal tell me, they are both Conservative.I ‘m only betting I know, well I think I know the electorate, they wont vote for the current leader and his front bench into government.I have seen this type of campaign before with Keating.Yes the eventually dumped him, and for mine good riddance.

I would like to finish my dotage thinking people out there in the burbs don’t like extremes, that is why Abbott is not electable.Have you noticed of late even Joe Hockey has been told to STFU because he is rude, just like his leader. The people are not going to cop this lot Iain.Even level headed middle of the road conservatives would be wary of this lot, if you can’t see it what can I say?

  17. Lynot

The thing that you don’t seem to realise is that they just do not see Tony Abbott as being extreme the way that you do, They certainly see him as conservative but to them that is not such a bad thing. It all depends on what they see as the middle now doesn’t it?

  18. I rather think that the ship was able to steer out of harms way because the previous captain and his first mate put a couple of rather large Evinrudes on the back.
Of course the current acting Skipper is running them flat nacker and and needs to refuel them with by slaughtering the golden egg laying goose. That is why he’s about to be cast adrift in a skiff with a compass, a loaf of bread and a map.
In a masterpiece of irony he could have to sail it to Java.
    More like Geneva though.
