How to stop the boat peoples while saving face for KRudd and make some money out of it

The current delemma involving Alex (the fake scum) and his 70 odd boat peoples stuck on an Aussie ship off Indonesia, while they refuse to take them and KRudd refuses to let them have Christmas on Christmas Island, has given me a great idea of how to solve this ongoing problem and for everybodie to come out a winner – especially me.

Now I ask you, if you was a asylumn seeker trying to gain entry into Australia but you had no ways of getting here except by the ‘scum of the earth’ peoples smugglers boats, what would youse rather be traveling in:

Well obversley you would rather fly in on a jumbo jet cos even though some times planes do crash, it is just a tad more comfortable and quicker and you can’t throw your kids overboard as the windows and doors are sealed. The only problem is in, er, getting one, and that is where I come in. I have a contact at Qantas who says I can charter a jumbo to fly from Indonesia to Australia for about $1 million, which I think is a pretty good deal when you realise that these boat peoples is paying up to $16,000 each for there passage on those leaky boats and would shorely be prepared to shell out the same to fly in on ‘Scum of the earth’ airlines. Now a normal jumbo can seat about 400 people but if you take the seats out and make them all stand up close to each other so they don’t fall over I think we could squeeze about 1,000 of them on board (there’s no problem with the weight cos they are all skinny and underfed).

So, 1,000 x $16,000 = $16 million, a profit of $15 million for me and the other investors prepared to underwrite this amazing enterprise and adventure. Them is some big bikkies and I have a foolproof plan to be sure that Mr Rudd has no choice but to let it land and take the plane peoples in as refugees. Here it is:

You see, I am not as dumb as I sound and I know that if you land at an international airport you are not actually in that country until you go thru customs and you can just be sent straight back where you came from cos you are in some no man’s land called ‘in transit’.

So what we do is we fly to Alice Springs which is not an international airport and has not got a ’no man’s land’ meaning once you touch down you are in Oz, full stop, and you would have to be processed as refugee.

As a neat trick we radio in, once we are approaching the Alice to tell the air traffic people we have only enough fuel to get to Alice and if they don’t let us land we are gunna crash and Mr Rudd will have 1,000 deaths on his hands.

What are they gunna do? Do you think they will send up a F111 and shoot us down? Do you think they will launch an exocet missile? Uh, uh. They will have no choice but to let ‘Scum of the earth’ land at Alice and unload its precious cargo of genuine and not genuine asylums alike, for processing. Of course we won’t let that fake dud Alex on board. He can stick to his leaky boats which we will make redundant.

So who is in for this amazing investment scheme that brings good outcomes and good rewards for everyone? We would only need to do this 3 or 4 times and then we would have enough money to move to New Zealand and buy all there homes and run the whole country. Of course we won’t let any boat or plane peoples land in NZ - we will shoot them.

While the survey found 46 per cent of men followed their mother’s advice and were never caught out and about without clean undies on, you could fill Suncorp Stadium more three times over with the number of Australian blokes who admitted to wearing the same pair of undies for a week or more.

The survey found a discrepancy between the sort of underwear men liked to wear and the sort of underwear that women liked to see men in.

About two-thirds of men wear briefs, and only one in five wears fitted box shorts. Most women, however, prefer men in fitted boxers, and only one in three want to see men in their briefs.

The G-string is one area where men and women agree. Only 1 per cent of women want to see men in a G-string and, in a statistical stroke of good fortune, only 1 per cent of men are happy to wear one.

The survey was commissioned by Bonds, and Bonds ambassador Pat Rafter has taken a stand against repeat brief offenders, calling on men to update their undies or at least use a washing machine.

Like a lot of blokes I am  ambivalent about the nature of clothing in general and underwear in particular. I am a definite believer in functionality first and fashion a very distant  second.  None the less I found this piece rather funny and if you look beyond the faux disgust that many men pragmatically decide that a daily change of underpants is not essential, what we have here is a cynical attempt to improve sales from the underwear manufacturer Bonds who paid for this survey.

Frankly given the fact that the Christmas madness is closing in fast it is a rather cruel thing to do. No one I know likes the idea of getting gifts of underwear or socks for Christmas. Such gifts may be well-meaning but they miss the point about gift giving for that festival. I have always maintained that personal gifts should be things  that are indulgent and outside the day-to-day necessities of life. Underwear falls into the necessities category for most blokes and you can bet that they would rather have a bottle of their favourite tipple than fancy boxers any day.

So if you are considering a gift for your  significant bloke and you think that he will love some fancy Reg Grundies  just don’t give in to that thought for more than a second, buy him something for his fishing tackle box, tools for his collection in the shed, a shiny new boy toy, even a pile of steaming dung (if he is a gardener    ), anything but underwear or socks.

“False advertising”, or “The curse of a bad miming job”

A week ago I went to see the talent night put together by the students and teachers at my daughters school. It was , as theses thing so often are, a mix of the very good and the truly dreadful but as the performers were all (collectively) our kids the audience was more than satisfied. Even the kid strumming random notes on a blue guitar was given a rousing ovation from the audience. One group of children even performed a song that they had written and choreographed themselves which was very good.
We were happy because we got precisely what we expected from the evening. On the other side of the continent the audience was very dissatisfied for the simple reason that they did not get what the bargained for at all. Who can blame concert goers for being pissed off at paying an outrageous price for what can only be described as a “Milli Vanilli” moment from BRITNEY Spears?

BRITNEY Spears’ Australian tour is in turmoil, with angry fans demanding their money back over a “boring”, “stiff” and lip-synched first concert in Perth on Friday night.

As the controversial popstar hid in her hotel on Saturday, her Circus tour – which will include shows in Melbourne on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday- threatened to descend into farce.

The fence sitters delima

Now this is a turn up for the books, who would have thought that the spokesman for the boat load of Sri Lankians detained by the Indonesians is not what he claims to be?
You can bet the Latte Sippers who want to insist that every claimant is Kosher will be trying very hard to avoid even thinking about what the revelation of this chap’s identity and history does to their own credibility on the issue of border protection.

The bearded Tamil, who said he picked up his American accent while working at a call centre, refused to reveal his full name, saying he feared that if he identified himself, his family in Sri Lanka would be targeted. But according to Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry, he is Kulaendrarajah Sanjeev, a 28-year-old people-smuggler who worked out of a base in India.
“Alex”, who led an abortive hunger strike demanding that those on board the boat be granted refugee status, was expelled from Canada in 2003, a Sri Lankan statement said.

“Alex had been involved in human-smuggling for a long time and it is believed that his office is based in India,” the statement said.
“His brother, who is now in Canada, is also involved in human-smuggling” and is being sought by Canadian police, it added, giving no further details.

“Alex”, or Sanjeev, said the asylum-seekers were in danger in Sri Lanka following the government’s defeat of Tamil rebels earlier this year, although he denied they were rebel separatists.

Our Government certainly does seem to be suffering the fence sitters disease. By trying to please both the rabid open doorers and the blue collar voters who want tougher border security they have ended up with some very big spikes  in their arse and unless they decide which side of the fence they want to stand there is no doubt to me that they will lose the support of both groups

They do seem to have extracted a stay of execution from the Indonesians on the 78 refusniks on the Oceanic Viking but I suspect that we will still be watching this drama this time next week. As I see it if these people don’t want to get of our ship then the Australian government should put them onto a plane to Sri Lanka. Give then a simple choice: Indonesia or a quick flight home but under NO circumstances should we allow emotional  blackmailers to win here.

Why is a Crikey author endorsing the despicable Stalk Watch stalkers and bringing his & Crikey’s reputation into disrepute? Dave, please axplain.

Is PP's Dave endorsing Stalk Watch?

Folks I have some disterbing news. Last night I came across this comment on the Internet’s most underhandered and evilish blog, Stalk Watch. Dave Gaukroger even included a link back to his Planet Poison blog @ Crikey. Now irregardless of your politic one would have to say that as far as news blogs goes Crikey is one that is genurally held in high asteem and almost regarded as mainstreem. So why would Dave the boy from Albury, who seems like a nice type of family guy – and who on his home blog mainly writes about his kids and other uncontreversual & boring habits – think he should affectevly endorse a blog that anonymously attacks, abuses, slanders and stalks innucent partys? Is not that bringing his own reputation (which he is still to earn) and the reputation of Crikey in to disrepute? I think so. Anyhow here is what Dave said at SW and my reply given on this site:

Sorry to disappoint you Dave but I didn’t bother to read past much your little UnAustralian oneliner, which fell three words short of qualifiying for a link. Try harder.

BTW, you like that site? Good morals over there? All honest, effical & justerfied and stuff? I see.

To be fare, Dave has not said anything offensive or stalky BUT the point is why did Dave choose to put his attempted (but failed) humorus comment at that lowlife and discredited blog where only dickheads goes unless it is to defend themselfes? What does that say about Dave? Maybe that says he approves of such a blog and the way its run? Maybe but I dunno. But if I were Mr Crikey I would not be happy that my potentually esteemed & respected new author is going around contributing (and thereby helping to proliferate the existence) at crap blogs like the Stalk Watcher nutjobs.com central.

Take them at their word

I “love” the way that my Latte sipping friends want to insist that Islam and its nutters do not want to conquer the world . Mainly because it seems to me to be a valiant imitation of the ostrich’s defensive head burying behaviour. The fact of the matter is that among the motivated believers  a world dominated by their faith is what they imagine on their pillows every night, they desire a homogenised world where the only vision of the deity is their own. Fortunately for the world there is  a greater percentage of the faithful who are rather more interested in the welfare of their families than in building the caliphate.

None the less  I think that it is wise to take note of what these nutters actually say that they want to do, in fact I think that we should take them at their word when they say they want to rule the world:

Of course  the reality of our geography make a storming of our beaches most unlikely, and even less likely to succeed, but the real threat comes from those we allow into the country who share  the same vision of the world as Mr Hamid then actively seeking , as Jean Luc would say,  to “make it so” .  The best way to avoid this happening  would have to be ensuring that all of our people have a primary identity as Australians and that we should  discourage the creation of insular ghettoes as they have failed to do in places like the UK and the Netherlands. Just look at the social problems there and you can see what we can expect in the not too distant future if we don’t address the problem now.

A lot of the problem is a side effect of the information revolution. When my family came here in the early sixties communication with my homeland was either slow or too  expensive. There was no choice but to become fully invested in this country. Now the net  and cheap telephony makes the sort of disconnection form the homeland that any  migrant needs to fully commit to the new life almost impossible and we see too many people who are here physically but their loyalties  remain entirely with their old life and their old culture with all of its old  baggage .

Am I the only one who thinks that this is the  problem?

It’s time the UnAustralians @ Groupthink grew up and finally left school … and stopped poo-pooing the Melbourne Cup

I have to report on some sad goings on over at sadsack.com central. In this our week of greatest national party pride what do I find? What have I accedentaly stumbled on over at that new site which is the watered down version of Grods? Theys hanging shit on our national day – the Melbourne Cup - that’s what I find. It’s UnAustralianism at its very very worst.

Well what else would you expect from a bunch of namby pambys that thinks getting around in lycra on bicycles while munching carrots and refusing to eat real food like Maccas and big thick Steaks at Sizzlers is goodiness?  That thinks lattes @ $4 each is better value than a 100gm jar of Nescafe for the same price that makes 20 cups? They got all their values wrong, as these ‘choice’ quotes’  clearly show.

Please note that For illustrative purposes, and to prove my points on the exGrods UnAussieness, I have put there quotes in captions to these stunning photos that I took (well actully I took them … from the Herald Sun) and added my own clever cumbacks to there downbeat and justwrong remarks and points of view. I even got one in from Planet Poison:

Drink driving

When I was active in the Apex Club one of our members worked as a delivery driver for a lagre soft drink company and his name badge proudly proclaimed that he was a “Drink Driver”, The double entendre of that badge made all of us laugh most heartily. Of course driving while pissed is never a joke for the road users who are put at risk but I think that the desperation to create some sort of moral panic about road toll and alcohol is just bonkers.

LOWER drink-drive limit could be the solution to tackling the state’s out-of-control road toll, Queensland’s top police officer Bob Atkinson says.

Police Commissioner Atkinson yesterday said a reduced limit should be “on the table” for discussion, after admitting a high-profile campaign had failed to keep the state’s road toll below 299.

Mr Atkinson said Queensland could not afford to rule out a tougher alcohol driving limit.

“We do it now with P-plates and heavy vehicles,” he said.

P-plate drivers are currently not allowed any alcohol in their bodies, while drivers of heavy vehicles are restricted to 0.02 per cent. “It would effectively mean you couldn’t have a drink,” he said.

“You couldn’t even have a stubby of light beer.”

Last night, Queensland’s road toll was sitting at 294 deaths – about a quarter of which have been alcohol- related – and was expected to climb to 340 for the year.

The blowout has been blamed on speeding, fatigue and drink-driving. A move to drop the limit from 0.05 to 0.02 in Victoria already has the backing of that state’s police force.

When you consider that the number of cars on the road keeps increasing each year you have to realise that a road toll that stays at about the same gross  number each year actually represents a drop in the fatality rate per passenger mile of travel so  you have to see this kind of crap for what it is , just empty posturing and  excuse making for the further encroachment of the nanny state. As the expert in this article points out most people who are busted for drink driving are in fact only just over the current limit of .05 and in most cases that is not due to any disregard of the law but the simple fact that in trying to do the right thing it is far too easy to miscalculate your consumption and inadvertently go over the line . Its  clear to me that most people do want to act responsibly for their safety and that of their fellows.To make the limit effectively zero will not make any real  difference to the road toll but it will expose the motorist to yet another method of wallet gouging and a pointless reduction of our civil liberties.

Down and UP

Although I enjoy the security of owning my own home I have a great deal of respect for the idea of public housing that is available to people at a reasonable rent and with secure long term tenancy, If you leave aside the investment potential of home ownership the most important thing that everyone needs is the reassurance of knowing that you will be able to continue living where you do for as long as it suits you. Personally when I was a renter (in the dim dark past) I found the short term (usually six months, a year if you were lucky) leases were never that conducive to any feeling of permanence or security that also meant that most renters never have any sort of commitment to their community either. After all who wants to put in the effort to making friendships with people who won’t be around for very long?

Publicly owned housing is a social asset that makes life in our cities workable for those on modest incomes and the idea that the government should increase of housing stocks by building more gets the tick of approval from me. However the current government seems to be making a dogs breakfast of the task , despite throwing vast amounts of cash at the shortages.

And the walls came tumbling down

As at two weeks ago, only 73 new houses had been completed under the $5.4bn spending package, announced in February, while hundreds of existing homes had been demolished to make way for new buildings.

While Housing Minister Tanya Plibersek defended the scheme yesterday and said it had also funded repairs to 7000 homes, the opposition attacked the spending as a con and a waste.

“They’ve tried to make out that they are adding all these homes to the public housing stock,” opposition housing spokesman Scott Morrison told The Australian. “But the way that they’ve been doing it is by knocking other ones down.

“You’ve got to ask yourself whether it is value for money to knock down a perfectly good house just to build one in the same place.”

The opposition attack follows months of complaints about spending on new school buildings under the stimulus package, including claims the government has demolished perfectly good school rooms to make way for new buildings.

If the aim is to increase the total amount of housing available then spending 5.4 billion only to end up with less houses on the books seems like a very big FAIL to me. And the way that maintenance spending on existing housing is being spun is like wise rather disingenuous as well.

Ah well what do we expect from the government of Brother Number One but an excess of spin and a lack of substance ?

Now I was as surprised as anyone else when I read the  latest post at that blog about my good friend who comments here and whom I allow to write the odd guest post here under the Nome de Blog of “SockPuppet” This friend wishes to remain anonymous and as much as I believe that the nets easy  anonymity is not a virtue I am quite comfortable with what he writes under that name because  he knows where to draw the line between legitimate  mockery and pure venom. His identity may be entirely unknown to the wankers at that blog but it is known to me and he can be held accountable for anything that he says here.

Well its the first Tuesday in November so I suppose that means that the ladies will be getting frocked up and well charged with the fermented fizzy stuff while us poor blokes  try to pretend that we know something about the mystical “science” of having a punt on the Gee Gees. Personally I’m opting out of such silliness again this year as I am far more focused on a more important rite of passage. My daughter is going on her firsts school camp and her mother and I are feeling, well just a little apprehensive, not because we have any doubts about her safety or that the program will be anything but beneficial but because this is the first time that she has been away without us …

Anyway nothing deep and meaningful today  just a hat tip and a nod to the pleasure seekers enjoying a lovely day at the races or the parties called in honour of the big race, Have fun and enjoy !

When I first heard that the government of Brother Number One was planning to tackle “Global Warming” with an ETS I immediately had a vision of the great leader trying to control a very large bus from the back seat by tying a couple of strands of soggy spaghetti to the steering wheel and I just knew that if the bus moved in the desired direction at all that it would be entirely a matter of luck . Blame a very long time membership of the Goons show fan club for the imagery but when I read of our peak scientific body trying to stop one of their own saying that the ETS emperor has a bare arse swinging in the breeze I naturally took notice.

But Dr Spash told the Australia New Zealand Society for Ecological Economics conference that the CSIRO had since June tried to block its publication.

In the paper, Dr Spash argues the economic theory underpinning emissions trading schemes is “far removed” from the reality of permit markets. “While carbon trading and offset schemes seem set to spread, they so far appear ineffective in terms of actually reducing GHGs (greenhouse gases),” he says. “Despite this apparent failure, ETS remain politically popular amongst the industrialised polluters.

“The public appearance is that action is being undertaken. The reality is that GHGs are increasing and society is avoiding the need for substantive proposals to address the problem of behavioural and structural change.”

Dr Spash said trading schemes did not efficiently allocate emission cuts because their design was manipulated by vested interests. For example, in Australia, large polluters would be compensated with free permits while smaller, more competitive firms would have to buy theirs at auction. The schemes were also flawed because: global warming was caused by gases other than carbon; emissions were difficult to measure; carbon offsets bought from other countries were of dubious value; and the schemes “crowded out” voluntary action by individuals. He concludes that more direct measures, such as a carbon tax, regulations or new infrastructure would be simpler, more effective and less open to manipulation.

As I have said many times “emission trading” is only good for enriching some sleazy derivatives traders and that any government who allows them to get a strangle hold on our economy is barking mad , or just dreaming of the potential to skim more money out of the pockets of the long suffering public.

Even if you are a true believer in the Warminista liturgy you should oppose the ETS schemes quite simply because they just won’t do the job their designers claim that they will. By all means argue that the reduction of CO2 emissions is the way to solve the problem of AGW just don’t put your faith in soggy spaghetti to do it.
