• Reader survey

I am interested to find out where my readers stand in the political spectrum so I have created a poll to find out. While we are at it there is the question of religion Cheers Comrades

Now the PC brigade want to get rid of Christmas

Christmas should be ‘downgraded’ to help race relations says Labour think tank

Scarborough Christmas lights

Christmas should be downgraded in favour of festivals from other religions to improve race relations, says an explosive report.Labour’s favourite think-tank says that because it would be hard to ‘expunge’ Christmas from the national calendar, ‘even-handedness’ means public organisations must start giving other religions equal footing.

The leaked findings of its investigation into identity, citizenship and community cohesion also propose:

• ‘Birth ceremonies’, at which state and parents agree to ‘work in partnership’ to bring up children

• Action to ‘ensure access’ for ethnic minorities to ‘largely white’ countryside

• An overhaul of Britain’s ‘imperial’ honours system

• Bishops being thrown out of the House of Lords

• An end to ’sectarian’ religious education

• Flying flags other than the Union Jack.

The report by the Institute for Public Policy Research was commissioned when Nick Pearce, now head of public policy at Downing Street, was its director.

Daily mail

I don’t believe in God but I do believe in Christmas, after all what is there not to like about giving gifts to those we Love and care about? Good will to all men is another thing that is hard to fault. But it seems to me that this sort of nonsense is just going too far and it certainly seems to value all cultures except that which is native to England.

Sayeeda Warsi, the Conservative spokesman on community cohesion, said: ‘Their comments betray a breathtaking misunderstanding of what it is to be British. These proposals could actually damage cohesion.’

She added: ‘You don’t build community cohesion by throwing out our history and denying the fundamental contribution Christianity has played and does play to our nation.

‘As a British Muslim I can see that – so why others can’t just staggers me.’

Daily mail

I must say that I was pleasantly surprised to see the comment from Sayeeda Warsi, it tells me that at least some of the non mainstream people get it and realise that English culture is just as worthy of being maintained as that of any of the immigrant communities that make up modern Britain. After all if people wanted exactly the same cultures as the ones in their  countries of origin then why did they move to Britain?

Cheers and Merry Christmas* Comrades

* Just thought I’d get that it before it becomes a crime to do so

  1. Sad that the supposed ‘democrats’ on the conservative side of politics find the need to roll back the gains of the French and American revolutions that made separation of Church and State one of their main goals. In fact with only 7% of Britons attending church regularly Christianity would seem as relevant to British culture as Druidism, a religion that is far more ‘indigenous’ to the UK.
Still, it is interesting how the global market (remember, capital flows across national boundaries, and so do people, in pursuit of it…or at least in pursuit of a job and a decent standard of living) continually erodes the supposed eternal and hallowed institution of the nation-state. As Marx said, “All that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is profaned…”.

  2. I’m also ‘pleasantly surprised’ to hear that from Sayeeda Warsi, not that the leftists will listen though.

  3. MK, leftists will listen to common sense when Slick Willie is held up as an example of Moral Virtue.

  4. No because George Bush is the perfect example of moral virtue isn’t he Elijah, complete with his past cocaine abuse and alcoholism. ;-)

I don’t believe in God but I do believe in Christmas, after all what is there not to like about giving gifts to those we Love and care about?

More to the point, what’s not to like about recieving them?

Good will to all men is another thing that is hard to fault.

    Hang on…..even terrorists? They’re men too. :-)

It’s ridiculous to consciously decide to change such things. If change to such festivals is going to happen it should occur naturally over time.

I have always worked on the basis that it is better to give than to recieve mate.

  6. At some point we will except that most Australians don’t love Jesus, and don’t celebrate a Christmas day in the strict Christian religious tradition.

In fact families that follow the full Christian Christmas tradition, are already a minority group.

Chinese, Buddhist or atheist, we all have different ways of celebrating the end of the year and holidays. Different dates so who gives a fuck.

Oh that’s lovely Iain. Apparently you have problems detecting sarcasm as well. ;-)

  8. No MM I am just not suprised when any lefty tells me that they are all about recieving rather than giving.

  9. Yes Iain, leftists are generally quite parasitical in nature, always angling for something that someone else has to pay for.

  10. Excuse me Iain but aren’t you unemployed? Hypocrisy is an ugly attribute. ;-)

  11. No MM
I am fully employed I just don’t recieve a wage for the work I do.

  12. Having spent 15 minutes trawling through your latest online creation, I can’t say I’m surprised.

  13. What do you mean by that Mark?

  14. You have too much time on your hands Iain.
