I have been I lifelong fan of the Doctor Who series. In fact one of the anecdotes that I like to tell about my childhood concerns the time, when I was nine, that I had an appendicitis, . At that time in the children’s ward at the Marter Hospital there was one black and white TV and I had had the pre-med injection and was waiting to go into theatre when the distinctive theme music began. I was most upset and I tried very hard to convince the nurse that my surgery could wait just half an hour so I could watch the Doctor do battle with the Daleks. That was in the era of William Hartnell who I still think was one of the better incarnations of the Doctor. In the end it was another Doctor, the one with a scalpel rather than a sonic screwdriver who won that argument.
Back to the present I have really enjoyed the last two episodes of the latest serries shown here and it is the excellent writing and great production values that have helped but it is also the persona and performance of David Tennant That has made the Venerable show so good. I will be incredibly sad if this report is true.
Next year’s series of Doctor Who could be the last for David Tennant after it was revealed that he will not be filming a full series for 2009.
While the BBC is completing the filming for the fourth series of the hit BBC1 show, which will air next year, there will only be three specials in the following year before the show gets a full run again in 2010.
David Tennant will star alongside Catherine Tate in the fourth series of Doctor Who next year
So dear readers do you agree with the notion that David Tennant is one of the best Doctors or are you still willing to back one of the previous incarnations and while we are at it who rates as your favourite “assistant” or villain.
Cheers Comrades.

I started watching Doctor Who with the new series, and have barely gotten to the end of the second season of the original series, so I’ve only got three Doctors to choose from. However, I definitely have a soft spot for David Tennant’s approach and demeanor — I will miss him greatly when the next regeneration occurs.
I’m also fairly disappointed that they’re skipping a year of production (the three specials notwithstanding). It’s hard enough waiting 9 months in between seasons, and to mostly skip all of 2009 is going to generally be tough to bear.
