For a change of pace; a quick thought about the ABC’s latest Sunday night offering that his being promoted within an inch of its life; “Robin Hood“. The story has been told so many times and usually there is some effort to make the actions and
motivations have some connections with the correct historical idiom But this latest effort seems to me to be rather infected with the leftist mindset and it is nothing more than a piece of propaganda who’s primary motivation is to undermine The War on Terror. Islamists must be it’s bigest fans.
Although there does seem to be a great lack of any agriculture anywhere that would support the people it looks fantastic with good sets, costumes and locations but the script is just crap… There have been far better tellings of this story so might I suggest that Errol Flynn is a better option for your fix of Lincoln green?

Pray tell Iain, how does it undermine the War on Terror? Who else in the world agrees this is leftist propoganda in the way you do?
Becuase excuse me for being sceptical but Iain Hall saying something is so becuase ‘he says it is’ is not terribly convincing!
Give us some evidence!
PS – My one criticism of the show would be Robin holding a short bow (as pin your picture), when historically he was known for the use of a long bow!
At least the Errol Flynn version has it right…even if he does seem to be wearing lipstick!
Watch the program PKD in particular the attitude to the crusades and the role of King Richard. Likewise the attitudes to the social hierarchy seems rather to much like the attitude to authority is in our own day and age. This is an anachronism and it irks me enough that I no longer watch the show.
By the way not every piece I write here is meant to be a deep and meaningful political treatise. This is more of an aside in relation to popular culture so don’t expect me to research it that deeply

Aah, I get it now – the piece is just a cheap shot at blaming ‘The Left’ for a show you don’t like, without any real reasons….say no more mate!
Have you seen the show PKD?
I bet you haven’t knowing you.
Well I have watched a few episodes. I hadn’t given it enough credit to be worthy of discourse analysis.
But it is indeed a piece of crap. ‘Robin Hood: Men in Tights’ is a far better version I reckon.
Hello. I have only just discovered your site, so it may be too late to make a comment about the Robin Hood series.
One episode featured a Muslim prince held prisoner in the Sheriff of Nottingham’s dungeon. Six Muslim women who were disguised as dancers, but were in fact highly trained killers, tried to kill the Muslim prince. Robin Hood and a Returned Soldier from the Crusades, a highly trained killer, saved the Muslim prince and killed the 6 Muslim women.
One of Robin Hood’s band of merry men is also a Muslim woman.
This took place in the 1100s when the Crusaders (Christians) and the Moors (Muslims) were battling for the Holy Land.
There were not any Muslims in Sherwood Forest, in Nottingham, in the middle of England, or anywhere else in England at that time.
So this series appears to be kowtowing to the vocal minority of Muslims in England. The writers seem to be attempting to change British history.
Besides which, as Cooper writes (above) “it is indeed a piece of crap.” The writers and producers lack imagination.

It is never too late to comment on a piece here. I did catch the last half an hour of the last episode. And it seemed to me that the writers just had to have the obligatory ethnic minorities as well as rather unbelievable plotlines. I think that it is not a case of a lack of imagination but instead a case of imagination shaped by twenty-first century political correctness.
